Default System not armed but alarm went off randomly ?

Weird but last night at 2 am my 2002 996 Carreras alarm went off. The funny thing is I don't remember arming it. The hood was propped open with my trickle charger clipped to the battery as I've always done.
has anything like this ever happened for you?
thank you

Was it locked (armed) or unlocked?

I'm not 100 percent sure. But I think it was UNlocked. That's why it's so strange.

I am new to the 996 but if its a passive system then it will arm itself after a period of time, it might have remained unlocked but armed itself,
modern systems lock themselves as well, so i'm basically spit balling here.

general info :-
i don't know where you are located, but we have some issues with thieves trying doors to rob what inside your car, and presto your alarm goes off.
they have gotten a group of youth's on camera with hoods pulled over their heads climbing over an apartment locked gate, then just trying all the cars to see if any are unlocked, then they rifle through and take whatever has value.

If you park your car in a garage, set up some mouse traps. It's getting hot outside and they're trying to seek shelter. I'm betting a rodent set off your motion sensor.

Is it outside or in a garage? Run your hand under the drivers seat and make sure the carpet is not wet. The immobilizer is under the drivers seat.

Car stored in the garage. I'll set up some traps and a camera if it's a rodent issue. I was so shocked at hearing the horn at 2 am I didn't check if the doors were locked before I deactivated the alarm using the key remote.

I had my alarm go off (on) in my driveway 2 or 3 times. I couldn’t figure out why it was happening, except the last time it happened, I figured it out. I had been locking the car with a sunshade in the windshield (propped up by the visors). The sunshade would slip off the visors and set off the motion sensor in the car… No **** Sherlock! 😃
