Default Shocks & Springs

I'm about to purchase either the Koni Sport Damper Set or Billstein B8's along with Eibach Pro-Kit springs.
They're both about the same price, is there much of a difference between the two?

I have a 01 C2 Cab and use it as a nice weather driver, it won't be tracked so a cross between comfort and performance.

Anything else I need to know or other options at this price point? Tirerack has both sets at $1400 delivered.

Thanks

Koni handsdown for the Cabrio and the use you describe. Twin tube (gas pressurized) type dampers like koni are more comfortable than high(er) gas pressure monotube type shock absorbers like Bilstein B8. Read more about the why in another post of mine from last week.
B8 will also increase vehicle height a little due to the gas pressure.

Not sure if the eibach springs come with both brands of dampers or only with the Bilstein but again for your use I'd not get different (lowering) springs that will stiffen the ride.

Having said all this I'd go for the koni active (formerly known as FSD) if available for 996 cab c2 and keep your stock springs. Do replace your bump stops whatever you choose.

The abs raise it a little despite having a shorter stroke meant for lowering springs? Or does that only apply to b4 or b6?

I have the Konis on my 2004 Cab. Very happy with the ride/performance balance. You may have to fiddle with the settings to get what you prefer in terms of compromise between ride and handling.

Thanks for the useful information. I was looking for a little lower stance, but nothing too extreme. So you're saying that any type of lowering spring will make the ride uncomfortable for daily use? I do see a lot of 996's that are lowered, but have never honestly been in one to compare how different it would be to my stock setup. Thanks again

Thanks. Are you talking about the settings for the Koni's or settings when doing the alignment?

Good question. The Koni shocks are adjustable, so you will need to find the happy place for you. Start in the middle or maybe a little on the soft side of the middle and go from there. But with the lowering springs, an alignment is probably a good idea too as they will change the camber a bit.

How’d your replacement go?

I have the Koni + Eibach kit on the way…cheaper than OE b4s.
Saw someone post elsewhere that Cabs need spacers on rear to level out because of extra weight from the top mechanicals.
So there’s 4.0mm and 0.5mm spacers (996-333-511-03 & 996-333-511-02)…any comment on what’s required?

B8’s will not raise the height of your car (they’re designed for sport/lowering springs) they’re actually shorter than B6’s and the stock B4’s…

I'm on B8s with a coupe and Vogtland springs. I let others test my car. I'm in a great road capital city Canberra part of Australia - roads of glass, everyone says my car is very firm. I'm going to try Feal 441+.next. Most open top guys down under in Australia here (pothole city out of the Capital) use B6s and fully recondition stock suspension. They are happy. I have Konis on one of my sedans and would describe them as a "sweet spot". B6 or Koni and fix your arms etc, and you'll love driving it.
