Yeah, I got a copy of the VM with the PIWIS II software.
Disappointed in no coverage of the 996.
Glad I found out before spending big money on a PIWIS II.
Wish I could see what the PIWIS I has.
If it had what the PIWIS II has for the 997 I might consider spending the money if I found one for sale.
For now, I'll stick with the Durametric Professional, Snap-on Ethos Pro & Snap-on Modus Ultra.

e30rapidic thanks so much for this post! I'm about to go through this. Picking up my new C2 996 on Sunday, starting the swap as soon as the gearbox lands from the USA (I'm in southern hemisphere). Cheers

I'm getting a lot of PM's about this swap from my other post. What could I do to ask for this to go into the DIY section for more visibility? Is it even worthy??

This is one of the most amazing things I have ever read in any forum on any project, car or otherwise.

I would 100% buy you a beer and a steak. Thank you for doing this, and thank you for sharing it. And as others have said, the PDF is pure gold.

Any chance you could post pictures of the wiring? Or could you send me a dm?

the pdf attachment with all the wires highlighted is attached to one of the posts. Shows the terminations. Basically it was the clutch switch wire, cruise wire to the cluster and new reverse switch pigtail. 🙂

Is there anything I need to wire that would be preventing it from starting? Not sure if I’m chasing the right issue

The clutch switch will prevent the starter from cranking the engine. Did you ground that pin on the ECU?

Putting this here as early cars seem to be different. Will investigate more soon….

Do I need a computer to do any reprogramming? I know the OP said he was using one to try to clear the transmission error but after swapping the cluster that error went away. And if I do need one, can I complete the swap enough to drive the car to a shop that could do the last bit of reprogramming for me?

I used a PIWIS II, was able to tell the dme the transmissions type but it ran/drive fine as soon as I put the manual cluster in.

It ran/drove safely with the tiptronic error message in the cluster, was just down on horsepower a bit. Limp mode I suppose? So I will say yes, you can drive it to a shop for the last bit of programming.
