Default 1100 Lost at Sea

Well this is going to drive the price up. 1100 new cars is a lot in a normal year. These days this would be several dealership's inventory for the entire year.

Glad the souls are ok.

Potential for some bargain basement opportunities when they salvage the ship and put out the fire...

@Lady Silver LOL "Sure it looks like coral reef now, but if I can find a Tesla to swap in I'll have a running Taycan Turbo again!"

I see a very rare " smokers package " available by Porsche for a limited time 😋

There are salvors who do this stuff for a living. Very lucrative. remember the huge container ship getting crossways in the Suez Canal. The salvors made billions....

Also read about P-cars for celebrities that are on that ship, including a 992 GT3 & 991 GT3 RS, it must hurt really badly, crazy...

Is it bad taste if I ask the salvage seller if the Porsche had been smoked in or ever seen rain?

I would expect the smart guys have already built the bridges to the salvors in anticipation of an eventual liquidation, and the ship owners, and car shipping agents have already began to deal with their insurance carriers in anticipation of a complete write off of the cargo.
In other words, the horse is at the entrance to the barn, ready to take off......big money in play...

Lady Silver - they are salvaging these cars for their material value, correct? There's no chance they'll be sold again as cars... right??

Well, we really don't know yet. Depends on the damage incurred. Maybe, let's say, some or all of the Porsches did not burn but were affected by smoke and water. I don't think they could ever be delivered to their purchasers as new but they could certainly be sold off as is, as shown at a price by the salvors with no warranty by Porsche, who would then submit an insurance claim. My point is that all this has been transpiring since the ship caught fire. I imagine people and companies have been approaching the salvage companies to get an inside track. These ships are huge and carry thousands of cars. Perhaps some have been totaled by the fire but it may be that other numbers are only affected by the smoke, provided the ship doesn't sink. Here is the latest:
