Its not about removing it. It can break into 2 pieces and still be "functioning" and cause the clicking noise.

Interesting. Sounds like it’s not a big deal. The bigger issue is the story behind the car I saw. It’s a US car that was rebranded salvage and imported into Canada and now has sat on the market for months. The left front fender, hood, bumper were changed and then the car was repainted. The brake pedal feels very spongy, as though there is a lot of air in the lines; all 4 rotors and pads clearly need changing. No service records and no IMS/RMS record.

Curious to see what people think of it. My take is that it is overpriced.

Brakes in these cars can be funny. Some cars have soft brakes and some feel tight. Its a combination of parts and maintenance.

I do thInk the car should be in the low 20s with a salvage title. The repair seems fine but its branded.

The brakes are currently more spongy than a 15 year old Kia 😜

Yep. Mine broke apart on the track. Didn't hear a clicking noise, it just dropped to the floor. Scared the he'll out of me. Got off the track and had my Indy look at it. Told me it was common to break and I don't need it unless I want the clutch to be easier to use. As previously mentioned, I eventually replaced the part after a couple of years.

May I present exhibit A

I had some clicking before this happened, intermittent cruise control operation and clutch pedal was very firm. Great when driving aggressively but a PITA in traffic. My worn clutch also contributed to a heavy pedal feel.

I think the consensus is to pass on this car, especially at the price point. If it was $15-20k I would have been willing to take a risk with the deferred issues but at the current price, it makes more sense to buy a sorted car.

The clicking feel/sound occurred close to maximum clutch pedal throw so the spring may well be the issue.

Agree. Looks like a unique color but the fact that the dealer didn’t bother to sort the brakes before listing is not a good sign. The price is also too high.

Canadian here. I’ve had my eye on that car for it seems like over a year. Something about that colour…plus it is fairly loaded and with a full leather interior (dislike the draped leather though).

The C4 badge on the deck lid was a giveaway that the car has issues.

Still, given how long it’s been listed I’d get a PPI and then take a run at dealing them down to $25K. Sorted, the car might be worth north of $30K. Any 996 6MT coupe selling for under $30K in Ontario these days has high miles or a lot of deferred maintenance or both.

It’s weird. The car is listed as a C2, had a C4 badge on the lid which was subsequently removed back to C2. I’ve driven the car. Engine/clutch/gearbox all feel good. Brakes are very spongy and it needs pads/rotors all corners and a thorough bleed. Needs new tires and an alignment for sure. No record of IMS/RMS so that is needed too. Car has been repainted a very dark brown. Once you add up all the work that is needed, it is simply not worth the risk of buying a salvage car. If it was offered at $15k it might have been worth the risk but not at its current price.

My 2002 C2 has a barely discernable click when the clutch is fully depressed. It is a sensor that will not let the car start if the clutch is not fully engaged.

I can now see why the 996 is quiet...Gundo/Fister mod should have been from the factory! Default PSE!
