INTERESTING #408 is on 8 of the first 25 entries
That's more than 1/3 incidence; which confirms my original suspicion that #408 was a "native" early-build 996 option, being in line with, and indeed driving the primary mission of the 1998 pre-production launch: POWER TO WEIGHT!!! (these had been the lightest 18" wheels ever offered by Porsche)
Remember: these amber-lenses / early-builds were the ONLY 996's ever built while Ferry Porsche was still alive

FYI Rennlist has hashed through this over and over and over down through the years and AFAIK no one has ever definitively produced an 8/98 car with original clear lenses; so yours would be the very first
Since you are not the original owner, how do you know definitively 100% that the lenses are original??
Bear in mind the amber lenses were the primary banner of 996 hatred for almost two decades, and the single most common "upgrade" in the 996 universe was to install clear lights and gleefully post pictures on Rennlist of the despicable amber lenses spitefully tossed into a dumpster (even if they were to be hawked on fleaBay later)
Believe it or not: amber-hate (which is actually 996 hate in disguise) was so common at one point a decade or so ago, Rennlisters themselves perfected the black-art of disassembling even the clear lenses, to surgically remove the small fragments of DOT required amber colored plastics hidden deep inside (???)
This "operation" involved cooking your clear headlights in your oven for very specific time at perfect temperature. It involved surgical instruments. It involved mirrors and magnifying glasses...

FYI Rennlist has hashed through this over and over and over down through the years and AFAIK no one has ever definitively produced an 8/98 car with original clear lenses; so yours would be the very first
Since you are not the original owner, how do you know definitively 100% that the lenses are original??
Bear in mind the amber lenses were the primary banner of 996 hatred for almost two decades, and the single most common "upgrade" in the 996 universe was to install clear lights and gleefully post pictures on Rennlist of the despicable amber lenses spitefully tossed into a dumpster (even if they were to be hawked on fleaBay later)
Believe it or not: amber-hate (which is actually 996 hate in disguise) was so common at one point a decade or so ago, Rennlisters themselves perfected the black-art of disassembling even the clear lenses, to surgically remove the small fragments of DOT required amber colored plastics hidden deep inside (???)
This "operation" involved cooking your clear headlights in your oven for very specific time at perfect temperature. It involved surgical instruments. It involved mirrors and magnifying glasses...
