Used Oil Analysis - High Titanium?
According to the previous owner he used Mobil 1, 0/40. Unfortunately he didn't have the receipt from when it was last done so I'm flying a little blind on how many miles this oil change had on it. To my untrained eye, everything seems to be in sorts, except for the titanium. Should this be alarming? Is my wrist pin shedding material? Thanks in advance.

The prior owner of mine told me he had the oil changed with the "recommended oil" so I indicated M1 on my Blackstone form. Like yours it came back with high Titanium and the comment was "we're guessing this isn't M1 and likely it is Castrol Edge". "Titanium" seems to be, or was, quite popular as a marketing buzzword but not sure what anti- wear/friction properties it has.

Pencap, I would give Blackstone a call and ask them as many questions about the data as you can. They would be a quick and reliable source to decipher what it means and what you need to look for. Please let us know what you find out.

Consider this when choosing a UOA service. Hell, they had to watch my videos to learn that high silicon in a M9X UOA is a direct indicator of bore scoring. I haven't been their fan every since that happened. If they read this, and don't like that- they can call me for an even more clear means of communication.

Thanks for the replies everyone, I had no idea titanium was an additive. I've heard of Castrol "Titanium" but I thought it was a marketing buzzword. I cant imagine how titanium in an oil would be a good thing...
I'll give blackstone a call this morning to see what they say about it.
I thought about using SpeedDiagnosix for this round, but I still have a bunch of these blackstone containers kicking around my garage.I figured for an initial baseline for the car this would suffice.

Yeah that was my thought too. WTF is titanium in this engine?? I searched everywhere for titanium in oil and found someone's speeddiagnostix analysis that mentioned wrist pin/retainer.
