After watching the 996 market for the past 2 years I finally found a car that ticked my boxes...'98 MY build C2, Aerokit, non-sunroof, LSD, 6MT, and heated/comfort seats. The Aerokit is not a factory install, it was added somewhere later in life.
Originally a German market car, it made its way to Japan for a pampered life and finally on to me here in Vancouver, BC. I already see bits of foam in the air vents, and I have a few other known items to address, but overall the car looks, feels, and smells like new with barely 60K Kilometers (40K miles) on the odometer.
I am looking forward to diving in as I am no stranger to Porsche's (15+ years of ownership), or my own mechanical repairs. I have already found this board to be a wealth of information and look forward to learning all I can about this model. Here are a few pictures after the first wash to remove 8 weeks worth of transportation grime.
Wow, that is soooo shiny I can't really see the car. You need to dust it up a little so I can see the actual car, aero kit and goodies, lol.

Looks beautiful. How are you detailing it/what type of product are you using? Lucky you, getting a slick top.
So far just hit it with a foam cannon, then mitt wash (2 bucket method), and chamois dry. These pictures are before any further detailing but it definitely needs a full clay bar as the paint is rough from air-borne contaminants and sitting in industrial ports for loading/unloading. Once clayed I will see what further correction is needed, hopefully just a good polish and sealant will do it!
Nice car. Japanese imports are usually in a very good cosmetic condition but because of the low mileage, they suffer from lack of maintenance. I've worked on a couple low mileage 928S4 that came from there and they needed constant repairs because nothing ever was changed. So if you can, start going through the usual stuff. Luckily the 996 doesn't have as many parts that age out as the 928.

I hear ya! I brought in a 928 S4 from Japan over 15 years ago and had a similar experience. So far this one looks to be maintained much better than what I experienced with the 928, plus I am not sure how long this car actually spent in Japan after export from Germany. No doubt I will have some items that need attention after 23 years, but hopefully not near as big a list as the shark had!
Ooohhh, nice find; very beautiful car, definitely a "forever" car for sure. As mentioned before the paint is so smooth and shiny that I can't even distinguish your rear bumper "winglets" aka "Spats", I think I do see them tho, again Congrats... Cheers,

Thanks! Yes, hoping this car works out and stays around for a long time. Dusk was upon me when taking these pictures so it is a little hard to distinguish but you are correct...spats are present!
