Question Porsche roof rack

Does anyone have the Porsche roof rack and bike kit? The Porsche NA web page shows tow types of bike mounts. Which one works best? Fork mount vs frame mount?

Got to get out on the trails soon and I don't have a second car to throw the bike in!

I have the roof rack, and the snowboard kit. If you're interested in buying the roof rack send me an e-mail... I used it once.

Peace,
Rob

I have the RTS, but decided that paying $185/bike tray was insane. Not a big fan of the frame mounts, they just don't seem as secure. The fork mounts have the added advantage of making the bike a little more aero-dynamic. That said, if you do a fork mount you have to put the front tire somewhere. I adapted two thule trays that I had, and they work great, they are spaced so the front tires fit in between the trays on the roof....

did you pick up roof rack at the dealership? and does it effect the soft top at all? Ive heard that after a while the rack will rust the frame of the soft top due to the removal of the weather strips?!? TIA

I've got the box and bike rack. Don't have a pic of the bikes yet though. Works great. Easy on and off. The 3 of us took a 1400 mi trip with the box on. Hit 115mph a few times, no problems. Bikes ride as well. The only down side is it's not worth the price

You don't actually remove the weather strips. There are black plastic spacers that are under the weather stripping of the a-pillar (front window). You slide them out, and slide in the front brackets, in the same spot, basically replaces that plastic spacers, they even use the same screws. It is the official Porsche-made, OEM roof rack. It doesn't actually touch the soft-top or the paint at all. The first time I installed, I was just astounded by those germans, and kept saying to myself, they thought of everything.

I actually have an extra set of cross bars, and the frame, no mounting hardware. I've spoken to Suncoast Porsche who said that the missing parts should be available for about $150-200. If you're interested, PM me...

01 C4 Cab NYC, how much did it cost your roof rack? I was thinking on buying one for my cab. Thanks

J Seven,
The rack goes for something like $560, then you need the attachments.
I bought mine used from someone...

With the weakness of the dollar, you might be able to order one here in the US and have it shipped to you for less than you could get it for in the Europe.

yakima conversion required drilling 3 holes in the yakima tray, buying $5 worth of random parts at a hardware store and 2 hours of figuring the whole thing out... man did I save a lot of money though, considering I already had 2 yakima trays!

here's a pic of how it works
