Default AUDIO ISSUE

Hi Guys, I have a Porsche 911 996 cab.

The Radio works fine and all functions all good but no sound coming from the speakers. I have checked the fuses and D9 fuse was blown. This is the audio I replaced but it keeps blowing that same fuse as soon as the radio turns on.

It is an aftermarket stereo professionally fitted but the wait time to take it is over 3 weeks!

Has anyone else had a similar issue? apparently it is extremely common in these cars.

Um no, it is not common in these cars to blow the fuse to the audio. You probably have a short. Have a competent automotive electrician find it and fix it.

Please give us the scientific basis for your comment "apparently it is extremely common in these cars." Did you poll 100% of Porsche owners? Did you personally poll all 996 owners? How exactly did you come to this conclusion? Who have you been talking to? Cars and Coffee? Now for me, I've never had a single problem in my car with the audio system, so you can take me, as one owner/person, out of your "common" comment (and totally false statement BTW). It is asinine comments like this that make the internet, and most public forums, the most unreliable source of information ever and perpetuates myths, lies and fables.

And it's assinine comments like this that make these forums hostile places. Here's a new member that probably just got his car and wants to listen to the radio. I think it's great he's getting involved. Take a breath before you attack someone for asking a couple of questions.

CHRISM12 - IMO it could be the fuse or the amp. Do a google search for "Rennlist 996 amplifier" or amplifiers and you'll find a good bit of information on the topic. I always find the google search to be better than forum one.

Best,

I was told by an auto electrician that they commonly have audio issues. If you have nothing helpful to say why spend the time to try and debunk this? I merely made that comment as that is what I was told

Is your auto electrician is the same guy who installed your radio? I've not heard of any similar issues in the ten-plus years I've been on this forum. I have the original 21 year old audio system that came from the dealer and it still works perfectly. If you have problems with an after-market radio that was installed by a third party, how does that reflect on common audio issues with a Porsche sound system? This is almost as good as the guy who was told that the IMSB needed changing every 5,000 miles.

If the fuses are replaced and still no sound, then I'd look closely at the amplifier. That was the problem with my system. The amplifier was toast. Unfortunately, Porsche chose to put the amplifiers in the frunk area which is not climate controlled. Over time, exposure to heat and moisture causes failure. I've seen it many times with these cars.

Thank you very much for your input. I suspected that the Amp may be an issue also in this instance. I will have to look into that

I also want to say that the aftermarket stereo includes a reverse camera and Bluetooth audio. This is soo handy! Especially for reverse parking. And is the main reason for the change
