Bonnet Release Latch Broken - 996.1
Hey gang, this morning I went to open the front bonnet, pulled the latch and nothing happened. When looking under the latch, the cable connector seems to have come undone from the release pull. I have a 2000 C2 with the original hood release, not the electric switch. Has this happened to anyone else?

If the emergency release is not reachable, the worst you'll probably have to do is cut into the bottom under tray panel.
Much cheaper than cutting into a bumper or hood like some cars.

I guess my main question is: how do I fix the main release pull? I dont need to access the trunk immediately but would like to resolve the issue.

I've fixed this on other vehicles, but not a 996.
Most of the time it requires replacing the cable from the hood latch to the inside of the car.
Sometimes that's easy and sometimes it's a PITA.
I've also seen instances where a technician(or the owner) replaced a radiator and in the process accidentally or purposely disconnected the cable from the latch and didn't get it reconnected properly.
The first or second time the handle gets pulled the cable slips from the latch. (Toyota Camry does this if you're not careful!)
In those instances the cable just needed to be reattached properly.
If it went snap, then I'm 95% sure you'll need a new cable, or a new pull-handle.
The 996(except for 1999 C2) has an electronic pull handle, so start there and see if it broke, or if perhaps the broken cable end is at the "handle" and not the latch.
To get to the "handle" there are two hex bolts that hold the plastic on.
The seat is normally in the way, so you'll have to unbolt it so you can move it.
Remove the hex bolts(they don't have to come all the way out if I recall correctly) and then lift up on the plastic.
There are plastic "trees" holding the plastic down.

If it is loose at the lever next tot the seat you can remove the whole assembly, there are two allen bolts under pop on covers, and take the assembly off and reconnect the cable there. Kink of a pain but not too bad.

Just a quick note on tex's comment. In 2000 a c2 has a cable handle too.
i would find the emergancy release and pull it down from behind the passengerside headlight jic a future probem pops up.

Goodness gracious! Okay...whew...I was going to write some long diatribe on this subject but will refrain. OP (original poster), please please please before posting your "unique" problem or issue of not being able to open your frunk lid, use the search function for the forum. This "problem" has been beaten to death on here. Although I do like the idea of taking a cutting torch to the bottom under tray panel. Huh, wonder if that would set the frunk carpeting on fire? Ah hell, just take a cutting torch to the hood, you could always install a fake scoop afterwards. In any case, good luck

You'll likely need the alternate hood release pull to get it open for the fix, unless it's broken at the handle.
