Default electric fault enquiry

Hello al I purchased a 2002 996 boxster and the headlights occasionally stop working leaving me just with the side lights.
now the headlights windscreen wipers and washers have all failed and the air bag warning light has come up.
they all worked on my way to the shops then after I got back in the car, they didn’t. And still do not.
has anyone got any ideas about this please?

That's a pretty general electrical fault. It's possible that your light switch is begining to fail. I would start by cleaning and/or replacing it. If replacing the switch doesn't change the behavior > check all fuses and relays related to the lights - if they're good > Check wiring if the wiring doesn't show and obvious faults (disconnects/breaks/burns) > check/clean connections at the lights them selves. As for airbag light, check/clean seatbelt connections (buckle receptacle)... Good Luck

*** Also check grounds - very common to have corrosion. Check/Clean/Tighten...

By saying "shops", do you mean the car was at a work shop? Then you got it back and have problems. What did they do? What were they working on?

Ha no I just mean Tesco !
I just went out in it again and discovered that the steering wheel lock is no longer engaging and the key isn’t pulling out of the ignition as freely.
So good potential news; if I turn the ignition to the left one click all the electrics work again but I still have the air bag warning light illuminated.

im wondering if the problem is in fact the ignition Alistair

It's a pretty easy fix, if you have small hands or you remove the driver's side speaker. I think the airbag light can only be turned off at the dealership or via durametric.

I was able to reset the airbag light using a Foxwell NT530.

No, just the switch module under the key cylinder. Make sure you get the right part depending on the ignition module in your car.
