Default 996 sunroof panel sag

I've searched this forum and the internet in general and most repairs revolve around resetting the sunroof. I have a 1999 Carrera. It has a vinyl headliner on roof and sunroof panel. When I open the sunroof the headliner on the panel is sagging to the point it makes an air bubble in the headliner and slows the sunroofs travel.
Has anyone else experienced this and how do you suggest I remedy the issue? If someone could at least help me on removing the panel that's be great.

Default Any resolution?

I know this is an old post, but you've described the problem I'm having to a T. Did you ever resolve the issue? Thanks!

No I havent. I have a hypothesis that I'll need to remove the sunroof panel completely which is a project I'm just not ready for.

I may be wrong but I think in another thread that panel just pulls down and off. You might be able to tighten up the liner and reinstall.
See parts herehttp://www.autoatlanta.com/porsche-parts/hardparts.php?dir=996-99-05&section=811-00

I have had to do this exact fix on my '98 coupe. The headliner was sagging on the sunroof panel. You need to remove the upper panel then you can pull out the lower panel. Once the lower panel is out, you can see a series of small screws that hold the mechanicals on. Take all of this off and then pull the leather off. Clean it all up, re-glue it and re-install.

I have the sunroof remove/install instructions as a pdf. PM me your email and I will send it to you.

Hi there,

Do you still have the PDF instructions? I have completed all the steps, but need to reinstall mine now. Please let me know when you get the chance!

I just did this. The Bentley manual has directions but it’s still tricky. Open it about 4 inches, pry backwards to release, close, tip the back end up and then remove. Reinstalling you need to engage the two clips on the side which is tough because you can’t see them. I put painters tape on the panel and the headliner to visually line up the clip and the retainer. Last tip, lower the back edge slightly to give you more space to engage the clips as the mechanism closes tighter when fully open. Couldn’t get it to engage until I did this last step.

Thanks for this. I did it- took me about an hour of trying and finally got it. But when I tested it. The sunroof panel drags which I think the height needs to be adjusted. Have you attempted to adjust the sunroof height? Also, the sunroof on the outside, appears to be at the correct height. If I change the sunroof height to get the liner to stop dragging will this mess with the seal for when it is fully closed?
