Default PCCM Installation Feedback

I finally got around to installing the PCCM in my MOST System.

It took a lot longer than I expected.

1. Make sure that you replace the following before installing:

996-552-231-12-01C Support frame for center dashboard trim in Satin Black for Porsche 986 and 996

99655265304 Retaining Bar

2. When you re-locate your HVAC control make sure you run the harness on the right side of the dash. There is only one place where the cables will be long enough to connect to the control module.

3. The USB media box harness needs to run to the center of the dash. The harness length is way too short. It took me 15 minutes to connect the small 10 pin connector to the rear of the PCCM, connecting it by feel.

4. You will need a PST2 to code your ecu, if you want map data to display in the instrument display.

5. I haven’t read any of the manuals yet, but operation is pretty straightforward.

6. I have a Bose system and the sound is amazing, as compared to the CDR23.

7. Make sure to install a Sirius receiver, even if you don’t plan to subscribe. Amazon has them for $35 with a free 3 month subscription.

In case you would like to have Sirius now and or in the future. The PCCM doesn’t have a built-in receiver, so you have to purchase an external receiver and antenna if so desired.

Do you know if it is possible to install a single DIN PCCM in an early model 996. Just a general question I had, I’ve seen quite a few of these install posts.

There is a single din PCCM for the 993. I am not sure it will work in a 996. Probably not, especially if you have a fiber optic MOST system.

mffarel - how to code the clusters? My Porsche Center said that they have only Cruise Control option.

Does automatic volume increase when you accelerate works?

Correct, it will not work in the 996.

Yes, as long as you have a MOST system, it’s plug and play. If not, you have some issues with grounding and and speaker level output.

Hello from Australia.
I am hoping for some help.
I am looking to purchase the PCCM+ for my 996.
As far as I am aware there are 2 different models, one for the US market (996 642 591 00) and one for the rest of the world (996 642 590 00).
From the installation manual I have found online and some information on the 911uk forum, I suspect the headunit's are identical. While they may have a different code, it seems like the subtle differences in AM/FM frequencies can be modified by way of the semi-secret menu that one person on youtube has found
).

There is a considerable cost saving in purchasing the US model. Even if I have to purchase a couple of extra parts (i.e. like for example the DAB+ module mentioned in the question below).
Hence, I was hoping the US 996 community may be able to help with the following questions:
  1. Does the US unit come with the DAB+ (digital audio broadcast) receiver (911 645 574 00)? The Porsche installation manual seems to indicate that it doesn't, however, the feature lists on pelican parts for the US unit indicates that it does come with the DAB+ receiver. This is even when DAB+ is not used in the US.
  2. When entering the semi-secret menu shown in the youtube video above, is it possible to change your radio area to Europe?
  3. This last question may be a long shot, but does anyone have a photo of the rear and bottom (showing all the technical items like part number, approvals, etc.) of the US unit?
Thanks in advance.

The US version doesn’t come with DAB. It has a built-in SiriusXM receiver, but you much purchase a tuner with antenna for satellite radio.

Thanks.
Would someone with a US unit be able to follow the procedure in the youtube video I posted (going to settings and pressing and holding factory reset for about 10s)?
I would like to see what the settings screen shows and if;
  1. It will allow you to change the radio area to Europe, and
  2. whether it provides you with any DAB parameter (i.e. whether it says 'DAB: Off', or whether it doesn't even have a DAB parameter).
Thanks in advance.

Not to be confused with satellite digital broadcast like SiriusXM. DAB or in the US it's called "HD Radio" is a terrestrial means of broadcasting digital audio signals on land from transmitting FM/AM towers. Unlike terrestrial broadcast television, the FCC is still allowing established radio stations to transmit analog signals on FM/AM bandwidths. Many stations embed "HD radio" digital audio signals or multicast along with establishing analog signals.

From Porsche, it appears to support DAB - (see image)

Couple questions, sorry to dig up an old post, but I can't seem to figure it out after looking through a bunch of threads....

I'm working on my install right now... 2004 C4S, no original PCM, with single CD headunit. Is there a separate ground clip for MOST systems or is that integrated into one of the other harnesses? I've seen ground clips in videos but think it was for analog systems. I've gotten the unit to power up and shut off with the car, but no sound output sadly... the Fiber optic adapter goes on the open end in the dash, and nothing needs to happen in the trunk side of things, is that correct? Any 'aha!' moment you had that I might be missing?
