PCCM+ Finally here for 996!!!!

My guess is that wireless CarPlay wasn't as ready for prime-time as Porsche would have wanted it to be. It's relatively new and the sound can drop out sometimes. I installed a Pioneer 4660NEX in mine a few months ago and have seen a lot of people complain about the drop outs on the internet. It happens to me once in a while (but it's a lot more reliable than the wired CarPlay Kenwood I had in my Outback which would reboot several times a day!).
This is more than I'd want to spend for something like this but I do love that it has a volume ****. Changing the volume on my Pioneer with no tactile feedback is horrible. Getting a stereo with a real **** or even a button is hard to do. I guess they assume everyone has steering wheel controls now.

Thumbs up PCCM+ Finally here for 996!!!!
I too have been looking for improved electronics. I'll use Waze and Sirius from my iphone bluetoothed to a portable speaker in the rear.,
Upgrading to the PCCM+ for my 2004 turbo is my plan for the spring time.
Having CarPlay available just as it is in my truck will be perfect, especially since it is a Porsche OEM part.
Now all i have to do is find someone in Westchester NY who can do the installation......

Installation on my 2003 996 turbo with PCM2 and MOST was very straightforward. Reused the existing GPS and FM antenna connections. Installed the new microphone; apparently the existing one is not compatible. Didn't need the FM antenna adaptor (911.645.574.55) or fiber optics MOST bridge (996.42.585.00) which are included. The kit didn't have the diversity antenna connectors and DAB receiver which are for RoW only. I put the multimedia interface box in the glove compartment, and ran a 6ft iPhone cable to the front center console. I removed the 2004(!) iPod in the frunk and left the iPod adapter alone.

Your link looks like it's all for non MOST systems, unless I missed something. Is the warning about a professional shop only being able to adjust settings anything to worry about?
So basically a plug and play into a MOST system with existing PCM?

Kudos to Porsche or bringing this out, and more so for sticking with standard-size radios that can easily be replaced. This sort of thing is a nightmare with most modern cars that have bespoke-sized screens that are near impossible to upgrade. That said, It’s a lot of $ for what you could accomplish for ~ $300 with any aftermarket double-din unit. Here is a pic of mine with a Sony unit an a Metra dash kit.

[QUOTE=Johannvb;16922361]If I was to fit this to my car I would route all the wiring to the cubby behind the hand brake. This way the phone and cables are neatly hidden away.[
Exactly, that plug in piece ruins it for me. Clearly the more elegant solution is as described by Johannvb.

There is a piece of paper in the box saying make an appointment with the dealer for installation. The last page of the pdf says "Labor time: 320 TU", which is 3.2 hours. For me (PCM2 with MOST), there's no settings to adjust. As mentioned in the pdf section 7, you need to toggle CAN vs AMP for 97-02 cars with PCM1. Search youtube and there's a video where an installer did exactly what is documented in the pdf. Save the $250/hour x 3.2 hours; you are already paying a premium for a plug and play system.

I am looking @ the back of the 996 pccm+, and I want to confirm that the 6-pin upper left hand corner harness is indeed always empty? There is nothing that came with the unit that plugs in there correct? I have circled exactly the harness in question.
the 6 pin is the standard video input for all android radios, including the 997 pccm+ which I have helped + confirm the pin layouts , enabling the 997 reverse camera function to work (with a modified harness) despite it being officially designed to support the oem 955 backup camera.
If the harness is indeed empty, Im guessing that porsche is using the same basic generic circuit board across the 996/997/955 pccm+ (as the rest of the hardware + android OS looks the same).
I'm trying to figure out if
1) the reverse trigger pin is still enabled on the 996 pccm+
2) if the analog video input + video GND pins are still enabled as well.
With the 2 above, backup camera will 100% work (for both auto + manual cars for any year 996).
3) If I can figure if the camera power pin still works too, then even better as the camera power can be directly controlled + supplied by the pccm+
Also, for those who have also went into the android BIOS of the 996 pccm+, is there any settings in there pertaining to a 'reverse camera' or 'reverse input?'
I'm fairly certain it is possible to definitively get to the bottom of this.
TY.

These are great questions and I am very curious to see if you make any headway. As far as the capabilities, there might be answers in the "secret" menu for someone who is willing/capable to modify it.

I did this as my first upgrade and it totally completes the car for use as a DD and for road trips/long haul. It's fit and finish is amazing, and while there is lag and say what you want about audio quality (I really only listen to NPR, SMFC, and podcasts), the convenience is there.
Kudos to those who successfully did a DIY install. I am in no way able to do that.
