2001 C4 tires..which
Hi..I posted the other day about a pending 2001 C4 Tip purchase. The tires on the car (rear) have about 15-20% left plus I would be doing the 15000 mi service. We worked a deal whereI agreed to buy if they provide new tires all around, and I'll do the service. Think I came out ahead but question is:
I have a choice of tires so which tires? In the Porsche brochures I've gotten, the wheel size then was (these are 18s) Fr 7.5J 18 and rear 10J 18; tire sizes Fr 225/40 ZR 18 and rear 265/35 ZR 18.
I don't plan to autocross or anything, just a nice cross country cruiser to sport with. Which tires are noisier/quieter etc. Will 285s fit on the rear? The 2001 C4 did not have the Turbo wider body. Any tires to particularly avoid?
Any input appreciated.
I'll be joining the list now I guess - I'm excited: SEAL grey with graphite
Regards..

The 285s look wider on the rear I suggest thoes if you can. If they can give you the Michellin get those. They handle well, are quiet, but they might not last long on the car. Well hell all tire don't last too long on a 911 (nature of the beast). I also would suggest the P zero. I don't have experience with the Continental, but I hear they understeer in the front. Well congrat on the purchase. Get the 285 !!!!!!
It may depend on what's available. I put tires on mine when I bought it. I wanted the Michelin Pilot Sport Ribs, but couldn't get them. Ended up with the Bridgestone S03s. I've been happy, but I don't have enough experience to compare. If you check around there's a few threads on this. Consensus seems to focus on S03 and Michelin PS1, Rib, or PS2 for street driving. The S03's aren't N-rated, if that's important to you.

Holding everything else equal, the 285/30 should give him a wider contact patch and a little shorter sidewall in the rear compared to a 265/35. This would seem to push the arrow towards the understeer direction, although effects may vary with the C4's AWD.
Cheers!

Thanks for the input folks. Having looked at some of the archives and current info, I am focused on the Goodyear F1 GS-D3 and Michelin PS. Probably stay with 265s. The car has chrome Turbo look twists which I'm not crazy about but could live with. Prefer the factory 5 spoke alloy a la:

7.5 / 10.0 -- or the same twist wheels in the non-chrome. Any leads there also appreciated. Car'z gonna go no matter what so I'm just getting picky.
Many thanks again..and black 'n tan's forever..

Chris,
If you are changing wheels, go for the 18" Carrera light weight wheel as per the above link. The fronts will be 8" which is better than 7.5" with a 225 tire anyway.

Well, the Goodyear rears are on national backorder and they don't make a 285. I have them looking for the PS Ribs. If I go to the 285 rear, where does the extra width make itself known? ie, are the tires going to protrude from the "narrow" fenders of the 01 C4 , or is it available room on the inside of the fender that makes these fit OK? In other words, I like the idea of the 285s but don't want the setup to look "teen-age, hot rod" wider with rubber sticking out.
Hope I made that clear, thanks for the thoughts
