Engine occasionally hangs up at 2000 rpm when cold, and when coasting in gear, to a stoplight for example. Blip the throttle and it seems to return to normal. As a cable actuated throttle, is it a matter of lubricating the cable/throttle body connection?
Thanks

Or a clogged and sticky idle air conttol valve. Do a quick search, plenty if info on cleaning or replacing

That would be a very good place to start. Also might consider removing the throttle body, cleaning it out with carb cleaner and removing/cleaning the idle control valve (ICV). They are well known for getting gummed up and creating idle problems.

+1. My 99 had a sticky throttle. I cleaned it up and problem went away. I also adjusted the throttle body stop, as my problem was it was sticking closed, not open like yours. I also lubricated the cable, although I don’t think that part was necessary.

Crazy, I'm having the exact same issue:
https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...tle-cable.html
I've disassembled my IAC and verified smooth operation + tried it out with a 9V battery and verified that it operates smoothly and doesn't stick. My next check is going to be the throttle body itself but the springs on the thing are SUPER strong so I highly doubt any stickiness can overcome the spring tension. Part of me is beginning to wonder if it couldn't be my TPS.
Does anyone have specs for resistance across terminals for "good" IAC and TPS?

^^^This^^^ and when you reconnected the throttle body and cable, did you manually operate it to check and see if it (the throttle plate) moves through the entire range smoothly and without binding or sticking? Might even be a good idea to have someone push on the pedal while you watch the TB, cable and throttle plate operate from idle to full open and back several times to make sure there is no binding or sticking(engine off of course).
