Default Shifter not lined-up right, sloppy

Hi All,
My engine, 2004 C4S , was out and reinstalled by the shop. Now my shifter is sloppy. 1st gear can be found in the normal position , it also can be found
by moving the stick all the way left against the wall and moved forward. This left travel against the wall is too far left, it's not right.
Somehow it passes the stop point or gate. It feels real odd too. I can downshift into 2nd and hit 4th gear sometimes
The shop did try to re aline the shifter using the centering tool, but it did not fix it.
Any ideas ? I need to ask them if they had the transmission end cables were installed in the neutral position .
This is sorta hard to explain, ask me questions if you have any...
Thanks for the help
The shop mentioned that he cables may be stretched , kinda odd cause it was perfect when I dropped the car off.

There's no reason the shifter should have been touched. I bet a cable popped off or was not re-attached on the transmission.

Thanks, the weird thing is that it can shift fine , but the H pattern seems to move right and left.

I so totally agree with this. You are going to have to make sure the shift cables are securely attached to the transmission. Nothing else makes sense.
