Default Quicker Tip Shifts?

When I was in the Mustang community one of the things guys with automatic transmissions did was to get a tune that firmed up their shifts. Yes, it also changed air/fuel a bit and bumped horsepower slightly, but the real difference was felt when driving the car and how quick and firm the shifts were.

I know that tunes exist for 996s, but I can't find any info about those tunes changing anything about the Tip shift points. Does anyone know of any tune that addresses the Tiptronic transmission at all? Or is this just not something that's tuneable on these cars.

My car has a tune from Fabspeed that the previous owner installed...I'm pretty sure I saw something in the paperwork, when I first bought it, about transmission mapping.
I'll try to dig it up, it's not cheap though!

What year? The 996.1 and 996.2 have different tips. If you look up the one you have and search to see if there are tunes for it.

There seems to be some talk of this from Mercedes forums which is the box used in the later 996.2

Lots of reading here http://www.911uk.com/viewtopic.php?t...t=mercedes+box

Try Markski, he tunes the 996 turbos and does the tip trans too.
I don’t know if he does anything for the non turbo transmission

I have an '02 Tip. Back when it was getting prepared for track use, my shop suggested a TCU re-flash that makes for quicker shifts. At that time (6 yrs ago) it was about $800 just for the re-flash. There was some performance tuner they would have sent it to. It's the same kind of thing as re-flashing the ECU for a little more performance. Unfortunately I don't have the specifics on it as I chose not to do it. I wouldn't suggest anything that would raise the shift point as the stock Tip, in "manual", will already shift by itself at redline when driving hard - or use the buttons.
Find a reputable indy Porsche shop that knows what they're doing and check with them.

I felt the same way about my 996.2 tip. Too much throttle lag. I know it is not everyone’s cup of team... but i had experience with the Sprint Booster concept in another vehicle and decided to give it a try. In the “red” mode, the initial lag/delay is eliminated, it holds the gear longer and a has a throttle map re-tune. Definitely not more hp, but the car feels completely different to me. I am a huge fan.

I think "throttle lag" and the tip shifting quick are two different things.
Our throttles can be mapped to be more responsive, that eliminates "throttle lag".
To make our tip's shift quicker is a whole nother story...
