Headliner R&R on a convertible top
The PO had his top replaced, and the headliner got torn in the process. I use both the hardtop and the vert top, so a headliner blowing around isn't kosher to me. The headliner cost $600 from a guy in CA, and installation cost $500 at a local auto/boat upholstery shop. $1,100 is a lot, but was it out of line?

I was quoted $2,000 for the same job. I decided for that price I could live with the droopy headliner for awhile...maybe even replace there dead elastic straps myself this winter!

I agree with you, except that mine had tears in the rear quarters and driving with the windows down made the thing flap like a flag. Just picked up the new one and it has to go back to the shop, it has some bubbles right above where your head is. Amazing price for a nothing event, IMO. Are these liners supposes to be loose/unattached along the sides?

OMG, I paid $1970 for a new top, installed, but they reused the headliner. I can’t believe a headliner should cost that much?

Dealer wanted almost that much for the headliner; said it's a 5-hour job @ $125 plus almost $800 for the liner. Looking at it, hard to to believe.

Dealer, maybe. But a dedicated shop that does this kind of work might be less. Dealer quoted me $9500 for a replacement top.

The upholstery shops I've used didn't want to touch it, and this guy had a slant-nose in his shop doing a complete interior, so he was willing to try, but hadn't ever done one before, either. There are some spots that he needs to do better on, so I'll take it back to him next week. Not many shops in the Mobile/Pensacola area that could expect to have seen this kind of work, so it's a crap shoot.
