I was the high bidder on BAT, but did not make reserve. The seller contacted me and the deal was made. I picked the car up on March 5th in Dallas. Flew in, met the seller at the airport, finished the deal and after tire and fluids checks, started the 825 mile trip home to a suburb of Atlanta. Left Dallas area around 1pm, and made good time thru the afternoon. I knew my wife would be extremely upset if I drove thru, but the drive was very enjoyable. I stopped for the night in Bessemer Alabama just outside Birmingham. That left a nice easy drive for Friday. I will say, my wife was very much a fan of the car on BAT, prompting me to proceed with the purchase.
I drove the car to work the following Monday and Tuesday, then retired it to my garage while I started gathering parts. I knew first order of business was IMS, so purchased a used Durametric Pro and verified all was good with the DME/Engine. Once that checked out, onto the lift it went, down came the transaxle, and off with the clutch and flywheel. Ordered the IMS Solution, clutch and flywheel and Skip's UAOS (and various other items to pass the time). Pulled the sump, it was pristine inside, no metal or plastic bits found.
IMS and tools (IMS and RMS) arrived, followed the removal/installation guide, had the IMS out in no time. IMS bearing was perfect, no issues. There was a little seepage from the IMS flange and/or RMS previously, but that will hopefully stay resolved now.
Lastly, the tires on the car were ancient (noted in the BAT listing) and the 2-piece wheels weren't. They are cheap wheels that are very heavy with in effect stainless steel trim rings permanently attached. They are reverse mount wheels due to the stainless lips. Since tires were needed, I took advantage of the recent Apex wheels sale and stepped up in size to 996.2 GT3 spec wheels and Michelin Pilot PS2 tires.

Welcome! Did you do all the service work yourself?
Car looks much, much better with the new wheels and tires!
Enjoy it!
Yes I did all the work. None of it hard. But, then again, I have been working on cars/vehicles for 50+ years. This is my track vehicle - built by my own hands, except for the cage install - that I left to the professionals at Kirk Racing just north of Birmingham AL.
Beautiful car! Looks really sweet - Though a nice set of coil-overs or lowering springs would make it damn near perfect! (yup, it's never ending...)
Last "toy" street car was a 1995 BMW M3 in the shade of Daytona Violet. I lowered it, stiffened it, etc. Unfortunately it would scrape on the speed control devices around here and also the slight rise into my driveway unless I entered on a specific angle.
This 996 has 030 factory suspension, so it is (more or less) stiffly sprung, but not back jarring. I don't plan to lower it...
