Hi hopefully I’ve used the proper US term......when I push the stalk down to signal a turn the stalk does not cancel after I’ve done the turn and I have to cancel the signal manually.
i have tried taking the indicator/signal unit apart as Jeff instructs in his video here
When I opened my unit the main spring and it’s plastic arms were not broken so I reinforced it to be safe....the sliding part that is located with the two tiny black and white pins may have been dislodged so I put them back in the correct position. I then reassembled the unit and. checked everything moved correctly before putting it back in the car.
Unfortunately this hasn’t solved the problem and the turn signal/indicators still do not cancel after a turn.
Does anyone have any more suggestions on how to fix this problem....I really can’t afford a whole new unit even if any company was still shipping these items in the UK.
I’ve had the car for nearly a year and it’s never worked so I can’t be sure what caused them to stop cancelling.
On opening the case up a tiny piece of black plastic fell out....when I say tiny I mean tiny triangular 2mm x 1mm but couldn’t see anything from where it could have broken off. The main side pieces on the indicator stalk as featured in the video were fine and the big strong spring sat evenly in the correct position.
Do you actually know what the inside of the indicator unit looks like and what the various parts do? If so please help me if not there’s really not much point commenting as it is not helping me find a solution.
Hope that doesn’t sound too harsh but I’d really like to fix this problem after spending two days fiddling with the unit Inside Indicator unit Another view
I've done mine, so I know what it looks like. Can you show a picture of the stalk? I can't see it clearly. I think I am seeing the part of the stalk that goes into the module, and looks like both tabs are broken off. Those tabs are what is needed to hold the wire spring in place and allow teh stlk to snap back into off position. If they are broken off, the stalk is toast. You cant glue them back on. This type of plastic glue doesn't work so well. Crazy glue won't work.
Well the tabs are there, so its not that. The tabs are the part that always break and thatis what prevents the indicator from returning to off.
Hmm ... so if the mechanical parts are good (when you put it back together, the stalk could be set in the up down and middle position), not a mechanical problem.
If this little piece that fell out is so tiny, I doubt I can tell where it came from, but put a picture up anyway?
The Ebay units are almost always bad. I had to search long and hard for one that had a good stalk. And when I did find one and had it in my hands, I took it apart only to find that the plastic tabs were broken anyway, just hadn't fallen out of place. I had to take my good stalk and put it into the ebay module.
But that could be a solution if you can't find the problem. I still think there must be an issue with how the stalk is seated in the module. I doubt its electrical, but I can't say for sure.
Yeah, have no idea where that part is from. I'm at a loss. All I can say is what you have done already. Reassemble and try moving the stalk and try moving it and see if maybe it becomes evident where that broken piece is from. I know that is hard, since it is a pain to keep all those springs in place and not have them all pop out.
If it were to be electrical, then I assume that to cancel there needs to be current through one of the brass strips (or lack of current?) that causes the spring in the the clear piece on the stalk to retract and allow the stalk to return?
No worries I’m not sure many people have attempted to fix this problem themselves....most people have just put up with the problem or bought a brand new replacement unit.
Hopefully someone out there will have the answer and will want to share the knowledge.
I guess I'm lucky then - I've never gotten anything that didn't work from ebay... Generally speaking, it won't wind up costing you anything - but I do get that it's a PITA...
