Default Anyone Familiar With This German Engine Rebuilder

Hi All -

I think I'm going to postpone 996 ownership until I can either rebuild an engine myself or purchase oen that's been rebuilt with a number of the weak points addressed. Ideally I'd like an FSI engine in a C4s. I came across a builder in Germany that may be a viable solution. Has anyone heard of Car Design Pruefer or CDP? I beleive the owner/builder is either Stefan or Rolf, I'm not sure as I've reveived emails from both. THe website it https://car-design-pruefer.com/ . They offer a complete rebuild for about $10K and claim to use Mahle cylinders. That's all I know for now.

Anyone else hear of them or speak German?

Why do you want to send it to all the way to Germany? Just because a shop is in Germany doesn't mean they are better than what you can find here.

I wouldn't - you can buy an engine from them and have it shipped for about $250.

They don't have a core charge? How does the warranty work when something goes sideways?

Not sure where you are but I’ll be dropping of my C4S in June for an FSI 4.0L to be delivered around Oct. if you’re anywhere near the Bay Area, be happy to give you a test drive so you can decide if that’s what you wanna do with yours.

Bash Hat - what you are doing is my dream. I just don't have the $25-$30K to do that. I'm down on the Central Coast but have family in the East Bay so I'd love to take you up on your offer. Thank you.

Base FSI built 3.8 is about $22Kish (edited)...Start saving you won't regret it if you plan on keeping this car long term!

That's the plan. Unless I decide to test myself and rebuild one following FSI's instruction videos.

Anytime. I’m in Danville. Hit me up next time you’re in the neighborhood.

This is no longer true. Per one of Jake's posts on my engine rebuild comparison thread, they are phasing out their "Stocker" motor. Their cheapest offering as of last summer was the Street Performer for $22k and I think Jake commented that prices were likely going up as parts got more expensive.

@Jengah If you're considering a rebuild, you should check out my thread and attached spreadsheet comparing some of the more popular options: https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...bs-vertex.html

22K is where we start these days. That buys a Stage 1 Street Performer. Prices are not going down, they never will.
The engines are getting stronger, as we develop, and apply. Every engine is up significantly over 2019 when it comes to output.

One would think I'd know this since I just put a deposit down...I was looking at some old notes and got confused, those are now in the trash!
I need to stay off the internet before I wake up!

@wsrgklt Thank you. I'm very familiar with the great info you gathered. Trust me, I've looked at them a number of times. Thanks for creating that resource.
