Default amber side markers which years?

Were they amber from the factory for the entire 996 run? My '03 markers are clear and I'm wondering if they were changed by the PO.

Thanks.

I don't think any of the USA spec cars had them in any year.

I believe you are correct. Amber markers were original equipment on all US spec cars to meet DOT regulations. Clear side markers do not meet DOT spec, even today. I've heard several stories of people on reenlist receiving citations from over zealous police officers.

Well, I'll run the chance of getting busted. I like the clear a whole lot more than the amber.

By the way - it really doesn't matter what color the plastic is, does it? If there's an amber bulb in there?

I believe the lack of an amber reflector is the issue.

I'm with you - I switched the side markers to clear on all my 911s right after I bought them.

My '99 C4 has amber side markers. I believe that was the only MY to have amber.

My '99 has amber side markers, from day one. I've never understood the aversion to amber side markers or the fried eggs. Oh well.

Are you asking about the rear tail lights? If you are, '99 was the only model year to get the orange/red tail lights.

If you're asking about the fender lights, they all were orange.

I'm with you. I bought '99 orange/red tail lights for my 996.2.

I even have a set of front and rear amber lights ready to go on an E46 M3 I don't own yet.

Ageed with the ambers - my very early ‘99 has amber front and rear and I like them. The clear ones never looked quite as good to me.
Fried eggs!!
