Went to the dealer today (off-topic ish)
Went to the dealer to order some small stuff for my 996 and was amazed at how few sports cars they have in stock.
I only saw one 911, a green GT3 RS, a red Boxster and no Caymans.
Probably 50-60 Cayennes and Macans in the lot and a couple Panameras.
I really wonder what the ratio is of SUVs sold to coupes/convertibles.
10:1 ? More ?
Just seemed strange to see so few actual Porsches at a Porsche dealer!

If this article has correct figures it looks like the ratio is about 70% + are non-sports car Porsches https://www.loeberporsche.com/blog/b...-through-2019/
I wonder if sports cars, 911's in particular are scarce on dealer lots because so many people custom order them . How many people bought their brand new 911 off of the lot?

The parts guys are always great over there. I think I was banned from the sales area when I argued the 996 is not 15k better than a 986 Boxster S.
Kind of loses it luster when they have mostly suv’s And 4 doors out front and there is a McLaren dealership across the street with some pretty nice 911’s.

My favorite part about the McLaren dealer is seeing them out in the snow

Just checked my dealer they have 36 or so new or used 911/Cayman and almost 50 between SUVs, Panamera and Taycans.

Most 911's, especially GT cars are spoken for on dealer lots when purchasing new. That's often why you see so many "used" 500-3k mile GT variant cars at dealers. Dealers have "preferred" (nice way of saying, guy with cash/means who is in on the hustle) customers who purchase the cars, drive them for 3-6 months, then execute their handshake deal with the dealer to sell it back above the initial sales price. Said dealer is then free to mark up the car well beyond what the initial sales price was. Porsche dealers have been playing this game for a while now. I'm not in the position to buy a GT car new, but know a few who are that had no luck getting an allocation due to dealers executing this practice.

Then skipped town with the money.
From what I understand the GT cars are usually sold befote they hit our shores.

It might be a regional thing. The dealer near me has a metric sh*tload of 911's on the lot.It always amazes me to see so much inventory just sitting there.
