Correct. access to the second door (which also is covered in that crap foam) you can only get to from the dash.

To sum up:
1. Blend door under the heater core is the cold/heat temperature?
2. Other one is air between defrost, dash panel, and floor.
Do I have this right?

This is a game changer! I thought the only way was to remove the interior front console/radio/AC surround and dremel the front of the blower unit.
I'm still not clear on how the tech got the blend door out of the heat core compartment. Please clarify. Thank you.

I need to do this on my Boxster. Thanks for the photos. My 996 doesn’t currently have this issue.

Once you dremel off the top of that cap, you can pull the cap out, then the door angles out of the box.

Remember the door under the heater core is for the cold/heat. The other door, accessible from the inside is for where the air goes.

so is that the one pictured in the Op?
My 996 only has luke warm heat and if it's accessible from above that's not too bad to do

I believe you need to go under the dash and disconnect the arm the moves the door as well.

Even from the bonnet, you still have to disassemble all of the wiper arms and associated parts as well as disconnecting the heat exchanger and the coolant hoses. Its still alot of work.

My wiper arms are super faded. I can refinish them while I do this job.

just talked to my Indie, and yes you do have to remove a screw from underneath the dash, just one screw.

I’m the “Indy” that did the work ... I’ve done many flap fixes on 996’s, 986’s, 997’s and 987’s ... not too bad once you’ve done it a few times. You can check out all of my work at my Instagram business page at #joeslastchancegarage or my Facebook business page @joeslastchancegarage or Joes Last Chance Garage

So the problem is the missing foam and not an actuator problem?
