Default Interesting Gage/Gadget

This outfit makes a kinda cool pair of gages, I could see a pair of them in the console
Main thing I kinda like about them just from looking is they offer enough trim options to match
the interior and maybe look relatively stock..

http://www.aeroforcetech.com/products_interceptor.html

What does the group think?

I was thinking 1 of the OBD based ones and 1 of their analog,, be able to constantly display 4 values, with option to monitor problems..

No relationship with these guys just thought it looks kinda cool and would not look as goofy as some of the OBD monitors...
Cheers..

Says pre-2007 Porsche not supported yet. So does not do OBD2 kwp2000 protocol...

I have a set of two in my 2003 GMC Yukon, they’re great. Super easy to configure and access to tons of info via obd2.

I sent a inquiry to them,, (Just got it back actually) they said there wasn't much demand for
ISO OBDII applications,, But I wonder if they accounted for the fact that a LOT of Porsche
cars are enthusiast owned with long term commitment. There are not many elegant ways to
add instruments to our cars, as well as not having to hack things up to do it,,
They also mentioned the ISO OBD was "slow" compared to the more modern stuff. But for my purposes
I'm not looking for ultimate response time.. more like maintenance level monitoring, and the analog version
can be used for stuff like Oil temp and transmission temps. (Basically the stuff Porsche decided
not to put out outside of the PWIS protocol..)

There's just not enough demand for them to focus on old technology.

Check out P3 gauges too. They tend to focus on vehicle-specific stuff, but I think they also offer a universal gauge as well.

That looks really interesting, what does it give you? Any more details/who sold it?

Found it:

I really like the scangauge option (what NYouftr posted) - would be the perfect replacement for the useless CD holder...

I emailed them to see if they can create a custom "xgauge" to read oil temp and oil pressure. Don't think they will be able to as it's probably much more complex but thought i'd ask.

I've had the scan gauges, perfectly functional,, great onboard tuning monitor.. but dang I wish they would make it with a nice(r) display.. The old school LCD just doesn't blend in the dash well (TO me personnel opinion all the way... ) I'd also like it to have some more OEM looking buttons. (IT does end up being in the middle of everything... )

Perfect world,, it would be in a oval shape the same Radius and vertical size as regular gauges and would have color controlled display with a dark gray background.
Ultra gauge has a similar issue,, great for the function,, needs a facelift for the hot-rod side..

I think one bit,, is that folks keep talking about not enough demand, interesting thing, how many 2000 to 2006 cars are out there being worked on,, I have 3,
2 hondas and the '03 C4, the c4 is around for a while..

Agreed - styling of the unit itself is poor just happens to be a great size.

Does need a better display and touchscreen without buttons would be great.

I've got a Scangauge that I used to have mounted in my 100 Series.

Where do I get the faceplate that will work with the 996's console?

The scan gauge mounted in my car was well worth the money.

If I get a CEL, I run a scan, it displays code or codes, then I can just hit CLEAR.
Running headers, 200 X pipe and Tubi mufflers, once or twice a summer, it will through a CEL code, for O2 sensor on left or right.

As far as LED not matching dash, I can change color settings to match the orange of the 996.

For my eyes, it is easier to read with blue backround, personal taste.

It also has the ability to be a timer for 0-60 mph, 1/8 mile or 1/4 mile.

So far the only other option I've seen that kinda would just blend in is a small tablet running Torque...

How close is the orange to the standard? I read that there are 60 colours you can choose from you'd hope one matches!
