Default 03 C4S Ride

Brothers, is there a way to make my 996 C4S Coupe a little softer regarding the ride quality? meaning, I live in northern New Jersey and the roads are not the best, each pothole or crack in the road is extremely jarring, maybe it's my old a$$ (55) I use my 996's as my DD (Aero Targa, C4S), I have been driving the C4S Coupe the most ( Love the hell out of it), I was thinking of H&R Sport springs, or larger profile tires (Currently on OEM Turbo wheels - 18")

Without doing anything to the springs/suspension, tire manufacturer and tire pressure are the two biggest things. I run 36 front 38 rear on a set of Michelin Pilot Sports. I feel your pain, literally, the roads are crappy everywhere now a days, they keep spending our taxes on social programs instead of infrastructure.

I would shy away from changing anything on the suspension...my .02...

i have same car, 03 c4s, and live in jersey as well. i run my OEM 18" turbo wheel sumo tires 34f 40r and although i feel large road imperfections, i dont find normal day to day driving that uncomfortable. i've only been driving it for 2 months so maybe the joy the car gives me is making me blind to the feel of the ride. good luck getting the ride more comfortable.

2005(996) C4S. 68 yo. Same issue. The ride is stiff but not punishing. Reducing tire pressure helps. I run Potenzas SO2A's at 34/40. Maybe make sure all the suspension bits and shocks are good. In addition are the engine mounts in good shape? Bumps can make an engine with worn mounts clunk around uncomfortably.

‘03 C4S here and I agree with all of the suggestions above. Definitely don’t replace the springs with H&R as believe them to be a bit more harder than the oem wing. I will try the try tire air pressure adjustment.

Go with the European OEM springs (quite more expensive than H&R, around 900$, but better balanced IMO) and check the springs mounts. Those can make also to feel much more rough ride than it really is. Mines were gone after 52K miles. (another 300$ each...)

So, I did replace my Motor Mounts 3 months ago, went OEM - as for the TP - I currently run 34F - 39/40 R
I guess for me it's most likely due to age, since I have been driving my 996 for over 12 years, I guess my old a$$ is simply just that - OLD
Thanks for your input all

go down 5psi in the front, I bet you’ll be pleasantly surprised and if your alignment is right, your tires won’t suffer from the lower psi. I’ve experimented quite a bit and landed on 34/39

I was thinking the same thing. I live in Jersey and have an 04 C4S Cab and at times the ride can be a bit rough. I will look at my tire pressure as well. Looks like you are down the street from me in Randolph.

I did not like the ride on my 03 C2 at 36/40 lowered to 33/36 the car feels much "better" smoother....then again in South Florida we don't havet he crappy roads that you have.....(having lived most of my life in NY I know the feeling...$$$ wheel and tire repairs)

Hmm, my base C2 with 18’s is pretty soft. Then again, it’s a non-S. Don’t S models have a stiffer suspension?

I agree with tire brand and tires being a big factor as well.

I'm in Wisconsin, where the roads also need a lot of improvement. I got some new tires -- General G-MAX RS -- and an alignment done recently, which made a nice improvement to ride quality.
