The comments are great. A bunch of people who probably are either old air-cooled geezers, or have never driven and could never own one. 996 is awesome and depending on the model/upgrades, most of the negative comments could be addressed from the factory with the right options/build spec.
I like my 996. The interior isn’t hideous - I do t have one. But I do, however, have a big *** motor and solid end suspension. And some race seats.
so I have the going for me, which is nice.
I find the interior of my 996 quite nice. It is all black. Gauges are all easily readable. I am not fussy on hvac controls. (Wish Imcould get the euro manual controls). I like that it does NOT have NAV. When deciding on a car, I did not like the 997 interior. Silver, gray and black. The ugliest NAV I have ever seen. I spent $2500 on factory NAV in my Jeep and now only use my iPhone for NAV.
After looking at a few 996's, I found my black interior with silver center console, silver gauge faces, full leather package, and other assorted silver bits to look rather nice. When I was searching for a car I really lusted for a Lapis blue car with Savannah Beige until I saw a few up close. Loved the exterior, couldn't warm up to the interior.
Call me biased but my bare-bones ‘99 interior is more
than I need.
Im still on the fence about keeping my stereo amd once the A/C needs a charge, its getting yanked.
Just like the political arena, how yesterdays trash is todays savior i’ll never understand. No one wanted 964s a couple years back. Those who kept them around loved them and had to justify their affection at p-car meets...
Dont 993s need $$$ top end rebuilds relatively often?
The grass is always greener it seems.
being at the cross roads of analog vs video game quality cars, im glad I got my car when I did.
As I read the mostly asinine comments generated from this article (not this forum’s comments); I’m reminded of this morning’s run on 202 cutting between Route 80 to Route 23. All back road in my 996 C2. Lots of sweet shifts, rev matches, short hill climbs, sweeping turns....ugly headlamps, plastic interior, fragile motor? F**K you...I’m in a bonified 911 built in Stuttgart to exacting standards and I can eat just about any turn and blow by cars twice as powerful and valuable....I’m very proud of my neunelfer....she is gorgeous, inviting, faithful, and will always be with me.
People need to quit talking about how nice/fast/fun/cheap the 996 is.
You're going to run the prices up.
I like the cheap prices, since I'm not ever selling mine, and I'd like to pick up another one, or two, or three, or...
I like the aerokit look, and the classic look, and there are a lot of really cool colors that I don't own yet, like speed yellow, and silver, and speed yellow, and red, and black, and blue and speed yellow, and...
Hey! I'm an old air cooled geezer an I like my 996 4S just fine. I kept my 3.2 just in case this water crap doesn't work or goes out of fashion. But, I gotta tell you - that 89 Carrera feels even older after driving the 996.
It is just hilarious how upset people get over it, there are cars I don't like but it is not a personal vendetta. The fact of the matter is its still a 911, it still looks like a 911 and still performs like a 911. As I said before the interior comment is ridiculous because this is how interiors were back in the late 90s and early 2000s. Mine has held up incredibly well and if you want that more 'traditional' 911 dash you can get the GT3 console delete kit.
