Default 1999 Key Transmitter Question

Hoping someone knows the answer to this: I have a 1999 C2 with one working key and another non-working key (essentially a blade). I just ordered part 996-637-243-01 but I received part 996-637-243-04. Part 04 is a two button transmitter, while my current keys are 1-button.

Will my local independent be able to program the car to work with the two button transmitter? I know the second button won't do anything and I don't really care. I just want to be able to remotely unlock the car and start it. I've asked the vendor I purchased from, but I suspect answers here will be faster.

TIA

It will work, but single button transmitters are still available, I bought one last year. I would request an exchange for the one you ordered.

My buttons on my key do not work also.....For a replacement, is this what needs to be programmed by the dealer for $200+ dollars? There's no way to update or replace by yourself somehow?

Unfortunately it is not a DIY job. It’s not the key that gets programmed to the car, the car gets programmed to the key.

I'm waiting on a response from the vendor, but nothing yet (grrrrr).

You may just have bad buttons or dead battery. There are threads that show fixes for a non-functioning remote. I'd try those first as it couldn't hurt to try a DIY. If you need new key heads (transmitter) THEN the car has to be programmed at a dealer (or well equipped independent).

True, it is fairly common for some solder joint crack in the key circuit board. Some people have succeeded in re-soldering the connection.

I have a 1999 and I just ordered a key from Keysinthepost.com. I'm looking for a key head and transmitter to make a second key.

The original single button key head isnt in the best condition either for what its worth.

Would anyone have any part numbers for what I need to replace the button on my existing key, and to put together the parts needed for my second key (without the blade)

I used part # 000.044.000.83 which is just the empty key head and transferred the innards of my old key over.

The part number for the single button key transmitter for our 99 models is 996-637-243-01. I just bought two of them from Sunset (although I'm not sure I'll order from them in the future because of the problem mentioned in the original post). They did send me the correct transmitter, but they were rather lackadaisical about it.

I have one working key transmitter and an extra blade--eventually I'll do what you did and order a third blade from keysinthepost.com. Now I've got to get a local indy to program the car.

I know the one-button shell is available because the previous owner of my car bought one. Unfortunately I don't know the part number for that.

if anyone needs their key head rebuilt on the 986 board member particlewave
rebuilt my 2 for 60.00$ I shipped the electronic part and had them back the same week
and they work great, they were killing the battery in one day
I bought a extra ebay head unit for 160.00 with 2 fence on the post keys 60.00$
but they were not even close Nice guys though sending me 2 more but really slow from England,
Porsche wants 75.00$ to program my new key,.
Nice to know at least it's way cheaper to get them rebuilt

I had one of my 2 keys not working, so I searched here for a fix. I took the board out, and basically re soldered it. It took about 10 minutes. I just used a fine tip and touched it to the solder spots. I did remove the battery holder (i think it was 4 spots) to reach the places under it. It was very easy, you'd be hard pressed to make a mistake. I can confirm my issue was just old solder had cracked. It can't hurt to spend $20 on a cheap soldering iron and give it a try first.

Sorry to hear your keysinthepost keys didn't work. I just ordered two recently and they both work perfectly.

The new keys have a narrower cut than my old worn out key.

Was that directed to me? I've never ordered from keysinthepost. I've only heard good things about them and plan to order from them in the future.

I had trouble getting the correct transmitters from Sunset. They made a mistake and sent a Boxster part, then took days to respond to my question about said part. Then, after finally responding to me and sending me a return shipping label, took days to send me the correct part once I'd returned the wrong part. (Perhaps that's just how it is when ordering "discount" Porsche parts online.)
