I have an 02 996 Cab, and was thinking of these license plates:
P9962
P996 02
Or some spacing variation of those. I know the 996 doesn't have an official Mark 2 like the 997 and 991, but given that the headlights and engine were changed in 02, I kinda feel like it works. What do you guys think?

I'm not sure it's officially a Mk2? The wikipedia page doesn't list it as having a MK designation (1 or 2), while other models do. I have no idea where to find out if it's official.

It is the 996.2 or mk2, mk II. Wikipedia is open to anyone authoring content, so it can say anything. It isn't an authoritative source. Adrean Streather's Porsche 996 Companion has some good information if you want to pick up a decent book.

I opted to keep it simple with P9962, as that's close to what the stock vintage (black and yellow) plates were issued with. They actually had a letter with 5 numbers, but that way to anyone who doesn't know it looks like a standard issue plate.

What's the point of paying all that money when only 1% of 1% MIGHT understand it?

DBJoe I totally agree, hence the subdued plate, whereas having a more involved plate draws more attention.
One of the VERY few things that California does well, is not making vanity plates expensive. The plate only costs $50, and each additional year of use is $40/year. Now at least my plate will match the black Carrera writing on the back like Nacra's plate.

Your plate is not whats going to draw the attention. The car itself will, regardless what plate you have. In CA you have to pay yearly to use personalized plates, this goes for regular plated too?
