Alarm / Central locking
Hi all just bought a 2002 Carrera Cab with hardtop fitted UK model
The seller told me of the door locking issue, but my excitement of buying this car dismissed the issue .
I think I made a mistake
At present the alarm does not arm the doors do not lock remotely
I can lock or unlock the drivers door by the key
I can also use the dash switch to Unlock the Drivers door
The passenger door does nothing period
The dash light is OFF except when you press the remote then it flashes so I assume the key is transmitting
Also if you keep the key button pressed the windows will either vent or close
Finally you can open the bonnet from the key remote
Suggestions please where to start
thanks

Sounds like a problem with the passenger door latch. It's possible that the car is not locking because it thinks the passenger door is open. There are micro switches in the latch that report whether the door is open or closed. Generally you replace the whole mechanism which isn't cheap but some people have taken them apart and replaced just the switch. These cars are approaching 20 years old so I would just bite the bullet and buy a new latch (if that is indeed the cause). Maybe someone will chime in and explain how to verify it.
If you pull the on board diagnostic codes with a Porsche specific reader, it may help narrow your search. As I recall, they are pretty specific about the fault type and location, Durametric is one common brand, and I think the Foxwell NT510 shows them as well. You might want to verify before purchasing. If you have a local porsche club, or are nearby another Rennlister, they may be able/willing to read your codes for you. If you are near me (Vt, usa), I’d be happy to pull the codes for you.
It's a common problem to have door micro switch malfunction. I currently have a bad micro switch in my driver's door that causes it to immediately unlock 95% of the time if I try to lock it. I have a Durametric Pro, but I was unable to get specific data about which micro switch is causing the issue. There are five in each door, as I recall. There is a tread on using a much less expensive VW latch mechanism to replace the Porsche unit by swapping some plastic pieces off your Porsche unit to the new VW latch. That is probably the route I will go when I attempt to repair mine. You can fix it in your own without spending a lot of money, but it will likely take some time to diagnose the faulty part.

The durametric did give the number of faults, which is somewhat useful. I was not able to translate the info into which switch was giving me the unlocking issue. It may be more than one of them since there were several that had multiple faults. I cleared the data, so it will probably be much more useful if I read it again.
