Zanzibar Red
#16
I wonder how rare this car was; Zanzibar red 996 turbo with natural grey leather. It sat at Auto Gallery for almost a month until someone came in and bought it. I like the color, it's very orange under the sun and very red at night.

Very uncommon color here in Switzerland, i saw one GT3 like in the picture used only as a race car from one Porsche club (German swiss part) in a meeting.
Also a 996 Turbo Zanzibar red around here with plates from United Emirats Arabs !.

I love the Zanzibar. I was fortunate enough to see a new '03 in Zanzibar when I was shopping for my car. If I were shopping for a new Porsche, I would strongly consider it.

Guy's,
Some love it, some hate it but I have a long standing love afair with my Zanzibar MK1 GT3. I have never had a car where so many people comment about the colour, and mostly favorably! Sadly though, it seems that Zanzibar is not a photogenic colour, as it has far more impact in the flesh. In the sun, you can really see the flip flop pearl effect. IMHO, Porsche' look fantastic in leery colours, hence my choice. Sadly, most people seem to worry about resale rather than choosing a colour for the love of it.
Regards,
Steve B

There will be a time when the cars painted in "leery" colours will be worth more than the ones painted in more conservative colours... it just may take a couple of decades. Personally, I'd pay extra for a second hand 911 in a wild colour but I'm guessing that I'm the minority.

That is a gorgeous color for the Porsche 911. Especially with the the contrasting tan interior. Thats only my opinion though. The color could be seen as more feminine than masculine but hey, I think the 911 as a whole is a sexy looking car. Those 911s with the wide hips.... wow.... Knock out.

Well, Guards Red is a classic although red is a little out of style at the moment and the Speed Yellow is gorgeous on the 996 body. I really like the retro looks of the 996 GT3RS (white with blue wheels/graphics preferably) but it might be a little garish for a daily driver. Not bright, but I love the 911 in black too and of course, silver looks awesome but I'd want my new 911 to stand out. I've always liked bright blues like Gulf Blue and that retina-searing blue offered on the 993 RS.
I was talking to my dealer about having a GT3 painted to match the Tangerine Orange on my 69 and after he stopped laughing, he told me that Porsche can colour match any colour you want, for extra cash, of course.
The wild colours really worked on the older cars, possibly because of the chrome trim, but I'd really like to see the return of interesting colours to the sports car market. I think Nissan has a winner with that metallic orange it offers on the 350Z, especially when it's optioned with the matching orange and black leather interior. Sports cars are special, why paint them like a minivan?

Geez... resurrect an 8 year old thread much? I'll be surprised if Steve is still posting.
But in this case I'll let it slide since I'm a huge ZR fan. The first 996 I ever saw was a zanzibar coupe in the showroom at our local dealership back in '99.
I think I've seen two since then, and I think it was the same car both times.

I don't think I've ever seen that color in person. It looks fantastic!

I originally ordered my c4s in Zanzibar ( which is also called India Red in Audi land) but the time to production got long so I settled for speed yellow. I also threw around riviera blue but same issue with an extended BTO time over an already long wait time.
I love the color though
