Actually the Aus Dollar is about the same as the Can Dollar against the US, down by about $0.33, actually if you read the #'s you posted that is what it says.

Wow, I'm very surprised to hear this as this surely is not the case anywhere in the U.S.A. Is this some type of strange anomaly in the Toronto area (or Ontario) due to a lack of supply of clean 996s?

I did a search on the 944 as well. Some of those are getting up there in AU dollars. More than you can get a 996 for. How about $59,900 for a manual '86 944: https://www.carsales.com.au/dealer/d...16558207/?Cr=4

There is no way that I can understand how a 944 is more desirable than a 996. Sure the 944 is good. But it's not even close to a 996 experience.

^^I agree... It's a different dynamic for the 944 though - it's much older and the curve is starting to turn upwards. I believe that eventually prices will rise on the 996 (they may be already, but it's certainly not an "investment" that will pay dividends for quite awhile). Enjoy the drive and don't worry about the $

Speaking as one of the few people on the planet who has made money on the 996, I'm still shy of the proverbial 'upswing'. Buyers are still setting prices in the 996 market, not sellers. There might be an outlier that comes along once in a while and bucks the trend, but so far - 996 prices are flat. I'm sure someone will come on behind me with an; "oh yeah!? here's a 996 selling for $36,000." Uh-huh, go ahead, it's a semi-free country. I did ok on my flip, but it surely wasn't worth digging myself in deep to the 996. Maybe in a few years, hard to say, it's a controversial market, and destined to stay that way for a long, long time. Talk to the 928 crowd, we've been riding that 'upswing' for a decade or more.

I think 996 in general will be the cheapest 911 ever produced.

A few weeks ago I purchased a 2003 996 for just under $30k US$ including 13% local tax Toronto area. Purchased at a Porsche dealer. 45000 miles, 72000 kms. Original no accidents. Decent Porsche dealer service history. Even a replacement battery from Porsche. All books, tools, even the rubber gloves and plastic sheet for the tire change. 2 keys. Full detail and buff.

I think I over paid considering that the IMs has not yet been remediated, Maybe by $2 to $4k. Comparing to other cars I had seen over an 18 month period, this was a clean car. Heck, I even drove out the showroom floor during a dealer promo event.

So, are prices on the rise? I saw lesser cars sell in this ballpark in hours in the Toronto area.

Sounds like a nice example 996. Can we see a photo? /X3

I think we should simply be happy that our cars don't depreciate. After all, we get a 996 for $15-$25k but could have bought a new Toyota Corolla. The Corolla will be worth 20% of its purchase price after 5 years, and our 996 will still be at 100% of purchase price after 5 years. And we get to drive what we want.

I spent the summer searching for a 996. I have to say, the experience felt similar to the air-cooled market around the time they were getting popular (2011/2012). Nice lower mileage manual coupes priced reasonably sold quick, often within the space of 1-3 days. Several of the cars I wanted were bought and flipped on BAT. Sellers seemed flooded with interest when priced accordingly. I loosely shopped for a 996 a few years back and prices feel up maybe 3-5k on average with much more interest. The market isn't "taking off" yet by any means but the 996 is certainly commanding much more respect and attention.

That'd be nice. Hopefully in a year or two, the price gap between a nice 996 and a 997.2 will be smaller.

In the interest of fairness and balance on a global scale... ;-)

https://www.elferspot.com/en/car/por...a-1998-168638/

That car is almost identical to mine and the one posted here. But is a bargain at GBP 11,995.

Just wow on global pricing disparity - UK/US prices vs Australian. It's insane. Still, if you are in the UK that's got to be a very nice 996 to consider.

Australian 996 prices are literally twice that and more of the UK.
