I've had this for sale on CL with no takers. Came off my '85 Carrera. Now you have me thinking....its smaller than the 996 wheel. I could use the leg room.

The one I got is the MOMO Race. 350mm, which in my opinion is the smallest I would go for street use though smaller would be great for track.

I grew up in the 60's and I have been a seatbelt supporter since day 1. I just cannot drive the car unless the seatbelt is on and snug. So my feeling is while the airbag is certainly a plus, I am willing to trust the seatbelts while preserving the airbag for the passenger. Also any side airbags the car has will still function.

I had a smaller wheel like that in my '87 Carrera. It was a bear to turn without power steering -- not straining, but just enough resistance to make driving less fun (at least in my '87). Seems like it would be great in a 996 with power steering.

I’m not sure which safety device is more effective, one or the other, but I’m guessing the seatbelt is.

Regardless, the feel of the MOMO wheel is probably amazing. To be honest, when it comes to driving a sports car, two of the most important items are the seat and the steering wheel (for me at least).

I had a MOMO on my 88 Targa and it felt amazing.

Lol, a lot easier with an empty tank of gas. Then you fill up all 22 gallons on the ‘87 (man, I miss large gas tanks), and it’s a heavy again.

But if you remove your airbag, you'll die in an accident!
I drove cars without airbags for decades and I'm still here.
I never really trusted airbags, and when they first came out I swore off them.
I often said, when Indycar has airbags, I'll buy a car with them.
Alas I gave in about four years ago.
I'll gladly drop the airbag.

85eurocarerra, how much are you asking for your steering wheel?

I was asking $250. Hub included. I'm going to keep it for now and contemplate installing in my 996.

L..
I wouldn’t put it in your 996, it would just look wrong and would be unsafe.
Instead, sell it to me and I’ll put it in MY 996.
It would look better in mine.

I’ll probably pick up a brand new one.
I just ordered a hub from Gert and will get the wheel once I have the hub.
I already have a bunch of stuff ready to go on the car.
I’m hoping to install the coilovers in about a month if I’m feeling good then, and I don’t have other things on my calendar.
I could always squeeze the steering wheel in first since that won’t take too long and doesn’t require a wheel alignment.

How would one get around safety checks with the airbag light on?

Horn works and the airbag light is defeated. The shop added a couple connectors so I can revert to stock if I so desire but that is doubtful.

I’m sorry to point this out, but the installation of the wheel has caused a significant increase in engine temp. You may need to revert back to the standard wheel.

Ha, you’re right about my reasoning!
Wish I could say the same health wise.
I had a heart attack at 42 that should have killed me.
It was a dissection that happened just after a run.
It has an extremely high fatality rate.
Now I’m 51 and was I just finished chemo a few weeks ago.

But airbags...meh, I’ve never trusted them.
Early on I saw too many people get injured by the airbag in minor accidents.
Granted, they’ve improved them so people don’t get broken noses for 10 mph collisions.
But seeing that Takata made so many defective airbags...my trust level in airbags has diminished.
I wonder about the airbags in 996s..
Were they made by Takata?
Are they ok?
Or are they too old to make the safety recall cut?
