New (for me) MOMO wheel installed
Got this from a member here and got the hub adapter from Gert Carnewal. Installed yesterday and I love the look and feel of the new wheel. This one is 350mm so not much smaller than stock and I did not go with the offset mounting adapter so my gauges are somewhat hidden by the top of the wheel. Horn works and the airbag light is defeated. The shop added a couple connectors so I can revert to stock if I so desire but that is doubtful.

That's a really nice classic look!
Is there a DIY on how to defeat the steering wheel airbag warning?
If so, I would consider this mod for my 996.

Gert sent me this:
Hi Elliott,
Here are some instructions :
Switching on the ignition without the airbag connected will cause the airbag light to come on.
Removal of the original steering wheel :
Disconnect the battery and wait for 15min. before doing any changes to the steering wheel.
Remove the original airbag by removing the 2 torx headed bolts on the backside of the steering wheel.
Disconnect the electrics of the airbag and the horn button.
Remove the big nut (24mm) that holds the steering wheel onto the shaft.
Put the steering level (perfectly horizontal) before you remove the steering wheel.
Remove the clock spring. Cut the wires 20mm from the clock spring.
The resistor is wired onto the 2 wires that normally went to the airbag.(green/red and green/blue) That will trick the airbag light.
The 2 other wires that normally went into the clock spring are for the horn and are a “ground” and the “horn contact”. (when the “ground” and “horn contact” are connected, the horn will sound) The “ground” wire is not used as the horn button gets ground through the shaft.
The “horn contact” wire needs to be wired to the sliding contact.
The sliding contact plugs into the steering column where the clock spring used to be.
See picture.
Installation :
Put the steering wheel over the shaft.
Tighten the main nut : 45Nm.
Reconnect the battery.
Thank you,Gert.
There are a few threads from a UK site that have photos of the connectors you need to access for the horn and airbag connections. Gert included the new horn contact and the proper resistor for the airbag light defeat with the MOMO adapter. Not quite plug and play but not difficult.

You won't regret it!
BTW, my dealings with the seller of the wheel as well as with Gert, who was recommended by the seller, were excellent. Quick shipping by both and great communication.

Good question. For now I’m going to keep it. My thought is that if I decide to sell the car the next buyer might want the original wheel. I have no plans to sell the car so that may change.

I have an extra 4 spoke with airbag out of a Boxster that I might sell to help fund a Momo purchase.
My car has a 3 spoke.

The wheel was $175, the hub and "bits" was $150 USD from Gert and the install was $200 though you can do it yourself if you have more skill than me (limited skill HaHa). Very worth it for me. A new MOMO wheel like this is about $275 but they have many models.

Darn it, you got me shopping for a Momo wheel.
I think it would look great with my Function First shift ****.
Do you happen to know the model name of your Momo wheel?
