Default High pitch vibration, engine related, what is it?

2003 base 996 coupe, IMS done 2k ago.

There's a very high frequency vibration in the steering wheel that is definitely from the engine. (varies with engine rpm)

It's ever so slight, but enough to make my hands feel like they've gone to sleep and are coming back to life after 30 mins or so.

Do you'all experience this? Any ideas on the cause?

At what road speed and why do you think its the engine and not something related to wheels/tires/wheel bearings, transmission??

stopped and in neutral the vibration can still be felt, varies with engine RPM. I have a Tiptronic four brand-new michelins, verified that all rims are straight and balanced. Could be wheel bearings Maybe?

Are you kidding? How can it be wheel bearings if you feel it while standing still?

Maybe power steering pump?

That sounds logical, I'll check them out.

Thanks for the suggestion!

Check your power steering fluid level. Move the steering wheel in/out and see if that makes a difference. As said, most vibrations from the engine/transmission are transmitted to the car from worn out mounts (engine or transmission).

Does the vibration frequency change with the RPM of the car? IF not it could be some electric motor of some sort though unlikely.

What about low-speed vibration when engine not warmed up; goes away after 10 min. driving and not felt in steering. Previously diagnosed with cracked ignition coils and possible misfires. /X3

Sorry I never posted that this was fixed with the replacement of the motor mounts.

Was the flywheel replaced along with the IMSB? I used to have a 95 mustang GT. I did a clutch and flywheel and got a bad, unbalanced flywheel. Had a pretty bad vibration through the stick and steering wheel.

The transmission mount on the tiptronic is completely different then on the manual cars. The rubber bushings tend do dry out and crack much faster. Easy to check.

My indy checked the tip mount and it was in good shape.
