Foam in vents, where from?
Anyone know where this foam is coming from? I cleaned it out today and it was super brittle. Let's see if more shows up.
Any ideas?
Know how to stop if it keeps coming out?

Each joint in the plastic ducts has a foam band on it to help seal the joints.
As the foam ages it will shrink and tear free in bits and pieces.
Any work that requires dismantling the ducts simply accelerates the process.

Here is a helpful hint - search this forum for foam and vents. There literally are hundreds of threads on this same issue. Our cars are approaching 20 years old, and foam, rubber pieces, and all sorts of things are going to deteriorate and wear out.

Its actually valuable stuff. Its called "Porsche phlegm". It can be used for various incantations and spells, if you know how. But dont sprinkle it on an air-cooled Porsche, as it will cause the intermediate shaft bearings to fail.

if we could find a way to turn it into electricity, we could solve the world's energy crisis. The foam comes from a never-ending well and will continue to shoot out in large chunks year after year

Most of the foam in the vents comes from the evaporator box heater control flap. It's a stamped metal piece with holes punched into it, covered in foam. The foam delaminates and shows up in the vents.
The defrost, center, floor vent flaps are similar.

Not just a Porsche problem either.
