Default Houston Area- Good Shop For IMS replacement

Hello,
My father is going to sell his 996 and wanted to get the IMS bearing replaced before he sells it. Does anybody know a good shop in the Houston area to get it changed at a reasonable cost? Also are there any suggestions on which IMS bearing kit he should get?

Just a suggestion... Before incurring the expense, you might want to see if you can find a buyer that wants to do it themselves. It's a great time to do the clutch and a bunch of other preventative maintenance that a new buyer might want to handle. I did my own IMS and would be happy and eager to do it again and save on the purchase. In fact, why don't you PM me a picture... I'm looking to buy a coupe.

Post up what he has as there are a few people looking. Replacing the IMSB and then selling the car is a red flag to me.

I wouldn't do it either.
If I were to buy it, I'd just end up replacing it myself with an IMS Solution.
That being said, best the shops depend upon where you are in the Houston area.
Modern Aircooled or Rennsport just off the top of my head.
I don't really have any experience with either place.
I do my own maintenance and repair work, but I have talked to people who have used both, and I've talked to the owner of Modern Aircooled.
I have the required IMS tools if you want to borrow them and do it yourself.

Thanks for the information and the offer. This is for my Dad so I'll give him the information.

I would pass on Autowerks. I used to go there, but they lost they best Porsche mechanic (and I don't know any of their mechanics anymore). I understand that they are catering to sales now.

If it were me, I would take the drive to Sealy and use Rennsport. There are other shops in Houston, but Rennsport probably has the best reputation from Porsche folks in the know.

Replacing the IMSB and then immediately selling the car would be the LAST thing I would ever do. Why do that? It would only raise suspicion. Just sell the car for $2,000 less and let the new owner deal with it.

That's what we're hearing, my Dad thought it would raise resale but it seems like it just raises suspicion I think he's decided to just leave it as is.

I know a guy in Austin, Corvette Country, ask for Beau and tell him Mr. Sorbera sent you.
