Default best book tutorial for 996 engine rebuild

IMS failure. From newly installed IMS bearing from Pelican Parts. The lesser expensive one. Believe I caught the meltdown before serious damage.
I need a source for competently rebuilding the motor.
any suggestions

The Bentley manual seems to be the most comprehensive you can buy. There are a lot of nuances in Porsche engine rebuilding, so good luck.

Let me understand this, your car had no IMS failure before you put in the new IMS bearing and then you experience the IMS failure after you put in the new IMS bearing?

To Michaelo,

Yes failure following IMS replacement.
Purchased car with 24k.
Replaced IMS prior to driving. Put approx. 3k on when failure occurred.

Different failure, but I just went through a first-timer rebuild myself on my 997. To pull the engine, I used the 101 Projects book. For re-assembly, I had a friendly shop print out the notes from their on-line manuals, and I also enlisted the help of a Raby program grad to help with experience and tools. He brought his books from class, which were excellent. Given the time and the money, I would have flown to Georgia and taken the class.

Where are you located, OP?

Who did the IMSB installation?

If the bearing failed after 3k miles, there’s something wrong (bad IMS, debris from previous bearing etc...) most likely whatever you replace it with is going to fail as well - and possibly other stuff from the debris from the previous bearing... good luck! Make sure you get the case and heads cleaned ultrasonically, and measure all rotating components for runout...probably a good idea to replace the IMS...
