Default How loud are muffler deletes?

I want to send my mufflers in to Fister, but I don’t want to wait for the turn around. I know I could get a pair and send in my old ones, but mine are pristine. I picked up a pair of Fabspeed deletes on Ebay for the interim.

Anyways, I searched through some of the old threads and nobody really quantified the volume of sound and it’s impossible to tell from YouTube. That being said, I’ll use a measure or two that’s known to everyone here due too it ubiquitous moranity.

Are deletes louder than a straight piped Harley?

If not, are they louder than a long tubed Foxbody Mustang with dumps?

thanks.

Unbolt the connection between the cats and mufflers and there's your answer. I have the deletes myself, it's loud, but altogether imo not bad at all.

I guess my main concern is whether or not it can be driven “quiet” and secondarily if it’s too loud for Autocross.

I have a set I have been keeping for my son when he buys a 911....I can ask him if we can sell it....I bet he would let the air go for something like $120 pair....

Fister will send you a modded set and you send in yours once you swap them out, so no waiting. He inspects and cleans up the ones he mods, so I wouldn't worry about getting something that's not on a par with what you send. He's been doing this for a long time and is highly respected.

Another way to do it if you are still worried about the ones you have is to purchase a used set and send those to Fister to be modified. That's what I did before he had an exchange program. If you buy from someone out of your area, have them shipped directly to Fister. That will cut down on the shipping. I didn't think of it at the time and had them shipped to me and then I shipped them to Fister. I could have saved myself some money.

Fister is a great option however, my only issue with that is I think its good to reduce weight hanging off the rear particularly if you track. One of the reasons for my custom exhaust was definitely sound but also weight reduction.

Loudness should be defined as decibels per meter.

Double the loudness (decibels) is 10 more dbA

I’ve read Gundo/Fister mod can be a loud as 103dbA from 2 meters behind the car at high revs. That’s quite loud. If you take the mufflers off completely, I’m sure it’s much louder, probably at least 50% louder or even twice as loud.

I difference of 10db is ten fold increase. I believe that makes a 3db change a “doubling” of sound pressure. So if the Fister mod is 103dbA, and no mufflers was twice as loud, it would make it 106dbA.

I had previously spoken with Darrin and he suggested I send mine in due to the condition. They are absolutely flawless. I’m not a persnickety person, I was fortunate enough to find this car in this condition and I guess it’s my turn to try and keep it that way. That being said, I could buy another set and send those in, but for what I paid for the Fabspeed pipes I guess I get two options for sound. I was just wondering how loud they are, and I’ll find that out tonight. 😉

Get a Fister, you will not be sorry. They sound great, quiet until you get on it.

A friend has a straight pipe set up that he uses for track, though he will put stock exhaust on the street, as he feels it I s too LOUD with the straight pipe. Compared to Mine with 200-cell cats and PSE, which I've heard is similar to Fister mod exhaust, it sounds more like cup cars.

How loud? Loud. Cup car-esque.

Ultimately it's subjective but the Muffler Bypass is a very aggressive option that I'll always give full disclosure on. Personally, I think they sound glorious under load but definitely more of a weekend warrior/track ready set-up.

Short answer - no. Not as loud as a straight piped HD - not by a long shot.

I DD'd my 997 with deletes for more than a year. Loud? Yes. (Keep in mind it was a cab as well - so even louder). Talk on the phone? Yes - but not the easiest. Listen to the radio? Yes - but it could never be louder than the car. Drone? Yup - but really at lower revs on the highway. To me - it sounded AWESOME. I went from stock to Fister to deletes and eventually back to Fisters to sell the car.

Ultimately - the fisters are probably the best bang for the buck - but if the deletes are for a short time - go with it. Have some fun. It's not crazy.

Right now I run catless X-pipe with Fabspeed headers and Maxflo's in my track car... I just like the sound of it - even if its a bit quiet.

99.7db at full throttle, measured at 50ft. just over 100db at 50ft if you're pegging the rev limiter
