Default Other than RMS

This forum is just too addicting, but I'm more glad to know that there is a great support group out there.

So I picked up my '03 C2 last Wed. nite, drove it to my garage and there it sits since now in North Carolina we have snow and the state practically shuts down (I'm from NY so I find it humorous). My car was a new leftover with 450 miles on it. So after reading about RMS, I decided to crawl under the car and take a look. The good news, based on the pics that were posted of where the oil seeps, mine is dry (as one would frickin' hope so). HOWEVER, I have about a teaspoon of oil on the rubber mat in garage coming from another location!

Here is a picture of the bolt (passenger side wheel well) of where the oil is coming from. Comments?

Also, the build date on my car is 9/02.

I need a hug.

(Warning - having picture attachment issues...not sure if it's going to make it..stay tuned..will submit and see what happens.)

I had two leaks in my previous 996.. one of them was the under pan.. easily fixed no prb..

the other one is the driver side (horizontal)engine gasket just next to the exhaust, which i learnt from the rennlisters that it was common 996 problem to be fixed under warantee.. Well, i just left it dripping coz we didnt have dealer to fix there in Nigeria..

Maybe this is your same problem?

ya, I'm pretty sure it is not cosmiline due to the oil on the floor.

Speaking of cosmiline...looks like hell. Does anybody recommend cleaning it off?

Back to the main topic: I just called the dealer and talked to the Service manager and explained to him politely how disappointed I am. He immediately said it's probably RMS and they'll take care of it and will not happen again. I'm taking the car tomorrow to get it looked at. Does anybody think it is reasonable to express my discomfort with this situation and tell them I want the extended warranty..either in full, or meet them halfway to get 7/70 coverage? Does anybody think I have any leverage with this situation or is it as common as a squeaky wiper blade and they'll tell me to get lost?

I have owned this car for 48 hours and have not even taken out of the garage yet.

Looks like excessive Cosmoline to me, but the location is indicative of a leaking cam cover or the oil pressure sending unit. Definitely not the RMS.I just had mine in for a silimar leak and it was the oil sending unit, only $53 plus an hour of labor. Another thing to watch is the crankcase ventilation valve (PVC) which will blow off excess oil on occasion and appear as a leak when, in fact, it's normal.
BTW there are no valve cover gaskets per se, Porsche uses silicone sealant on the cam covers, oil sump etc...

Looks like a dried drip of cosmoline...

Dont worry too much about that... The oil spot on the floor is another deal..

Good luck!!
