Default Strange Engine Start - '04 Gen. 2

Hi Guys,

I spent a very happy morning in the garage replacing the engine mounts today (thanks for the tips Charlie) and the work went very well.

I went out this evening to put the car away, and it started very strangely. It seemed to start with more power to the starter motor than usual, which made the engine turn over much quicker. Which sounded strange. It reminded me of our old Kubota tractor which had a compression release cable on the 'dash' to turn the engine without starting it. Does this mean anything to anyone?

I would very much like your comments and ideas as it is now worrying me. The only thing that I can think of is that both silencers (original PSE) have recently blown slightly at the lower seems. Could that cause this kind of an affect on the start up?

Many thanks in advance,

Joel

So the issue - as I understand it - is that the starter motor started the engine more quickly than what you normally experience?

Did you remove the serpentine belt? I know that's not part of the motor mount installation, but it's the only reason I can cook up off-hand to explain why the car would suddenly be easier to start.

I do not think there is anywhere near enough backpressure in the exhaust system for a rotten weld to affect how easily the car turns over.

Could be that the new motor mounts affected your perception of how the engine "feels" when it starts. I think it's more likely your imagination, though...everyone perceives wondrous new side effects after a DIY project. There's one thread around here in which OP claims to be able to feel better throttle response after an oil change.

As long as the car seems BETTER than it was before you did the project, it counts as a win.

The only other thing could be the ground strap? I have seen faster engine turnover if the ground strap situation has improved.

I would agree with this also

@OP did you lower or raise the engine?
