Moving on from PSE...need advice...
My 2003 C2 has the factory sport exhaust. Recently it developed the dreaded exhaust rattle, and also when I activate the PSE button it no longer switches back and forth from "loud" to "quiet". My indy says my mufflers are shot and need to be replaced. I absolutely love the PSE growl, but replacement OEM mufflers are $4K. Has anybody switched from factory PSE to an aftermarket system (such as Fister D or Fabspeed) and gotten a similar exhaust note? I don't care if I lose the PSE button functionality during this process - all growl, all the time!

I just got the Dansk Supersound and absolutely love it. Dansk claims is 10% louder than OEM sport. Dansk is also the OEM muffler manufacturer. From what I've researched, the regular Dansk Sport is the exact same as OEM sport exhaust but thousands less.

Where did you purchase your Dansk system here in the US?

Just curious, did you see if you can get them repaired? Mine is doing the same thing, I don't care if it's loud all the time (that's what I want, actually), but the rocks in a coffee can rattle is killing me. I'm planning on pulling one off and seeing if a local muffler shop or welder wants to tackle it. Should save a lot of money.

A lot of times the butterfly valve is just barely open causing the rattle, it is barely open due to a leak of the vacuum diaphragm not fully opening or letting it fully close. You can disconnect the vacuum hose and safety wire it full open and it may fix the rattle. It is worth a try.

My PSE had the death rattle/chirp
the valves are spring loaded to default to open if there is no vacuum to close them
I had my welder neighbor cut the cans open, then add tack welds to the baffles and struts inside the cans
he then welded them closed - all bad noises are gone, just the glorious exhaust note is there
but BE AWARE, the cans are made out of some type of bi-metal, outer SS and inner carbon steel layer and he had fits welding the access lid he cut out back on the cans.

Fister will sell you modded boxes w/o the need to return your cores -- and they have a great reputation around here. I have no first hand experience with Fister D product as I modded my mufflers in my own shop but can speak to the exhaust note they produce which is identical. It's perfect.

I picked up a used set of Fabspeed mufflers only. It's supposed to be just a little louder than stock without drone using factory cats. I'll report back once installed.

The Fister mufflers are essentially the same sound as the valves in the open position, it is the less expensive alternative to the same exhaust note you already have. The Fabspeed Maxflo mufflers are a nice alternative if you want to try something new. A little throatier, deeper, sportier exhaust note

I sure do love my Fister mufflers on my otherwise stock '99. Fantastic note under load/higher rpm, and zero drone. Can't even tell any difference with the windows up. But sunroof/windows open, good grief! Just glorious sounding, really- couldn't be more pleased.
