Bosch battery from PepBoys
#16
I used the Bosch h7 in a couple of other cars - so far no issues - the issue with premature battery fails in my 996 turned out to be bad alternator diodes - allowing the battery to drain when the car was off. I'm using Diehard AGM in the 996. Worth checking what the battery voltage reads on the new battery after a few days parked and/or seeing if the alternator is warm to the touch after leaving the car overnight. Once I fixed the alternator - battery holds charge for 2 weeks + - no issues.

What adapter plug in the passenger footwell? I don't have one of those. LOL However, is it switched or unswitched power? In other words, is the adapter plug live only when the car is turned on, or does it have power all the time? If power all the time (car not running), then yes, it will drain your battery...but...most cell phones draw so little power for charging I can't see that happening unless your car battery is old and weak.

Note on operation The sockets and thus the connected electrical accessories function even if the ignition is switched off or the ignition key is withdrawn. If the engine is not running and the accessories are switched on, the vehicle battery will be discharged. Do not operate additional accessories for more than 5 minutes when engine is off. Maximum power consumption for both sockets together: 70 W. f Please observe the power specifications from the accessory manufacturer.

I'll stick to my Bosch + Ctek option until it dies the warranty is long passed
Actually @Dharn55 what model Bosch battery do you have? Mine is a 56318 which I believe is slightly smaller than the standard 996 battery - 63 A/H vs. the standard 70 or 80 A/H that is offered by Porsche:

warranty fantastic born on date not so much
I have them in 3 cars and they have done much better than interstate. When i go to replace one in a german car it is always a fight to find one at a local store (we have 3) that was produced in the last 3 months.
QUOTE=joe-1972;14796497]The Pep Boys warranty on the Bosch AGM batteries is fantastic!
Same scenario happened to me last year... Left the car off of the trickle charger over the winter months and she was dead as a door nail when I went to start her up.
Drove into Pep Boys with the dead battery and drove back with a new one![/QUOTE]

I bought a bosch agm battery from pepboys two weeks ago. Turns out when you order online and pick up at the store, it was $50 cheaper.
I hope this will last a long time, turns out the old battery from my 996 was a Diehard with a Nov 2005 date code, so the diehard lasted 12+ yrs.

Reviving this old thread. Anyone had issues with Bosch AGMs lately ? I've had two of them go bad. I went to pepboys and autozone (where i purchased them) and neither are selling Bosch batteries anymore - this is in the San Francisco Bay area. Literally the shelves still had Bosch labels on them but they did not have any Bosch batteries present.
A pepboys guy told me that there was a bad batch of Bosch AGMs and that they would last 6mos to a year before they went bad.
My 996 Bosch AGM eventually stopped holding any charge at all. Really had my fooled as I thought the issue was the alternator (because the battery was relatively new). Pepboys gave me a new Champion battery at no charge - they didn't even bother checking my receipt.

Make the mile drive to the store & I perform the switch in the parking lot so no need to return the old battery later.
Public service message: Check the battery for proper electrolite fluid level. These batteries sit in hot warehouses & some evaporation occurs. Use distilled water to top off. I use my old Brita filtered water pitcher.

By the way the Bosche is the same as the Walmart Platinum Plus models.... all made by Johnson Controls but just different re-branding lables. As an FYI.... Optimas really do suck badly. We do alot of tradeshows and they are by far the most complained about battery becuase they market them to performance cars yet they last about 2 years from the feed back we get.
Anyway our Lithiums offer 8-10 year lifespan, built in WIRELESS Jump Starting so you will never have a Dead Battery again, nor ever be locked out of the Frunk again.... and they save 30 lbs over the stock battery. Just sayin'....... https://antigravitybatteries.com/pro...tive/ag-h6-rs/
