Will 996.2 dash fit 996.1?
i’ve been slowly changing out the blue interior on my car for black, and just recent got the dash related Parts. Unfortunately the eBay seller (a dismantler in California) sent me an different dash than shown in the auction - it is an ‘03 dash and my car is a ‘00.
The biggest visible difference is that the ‘03 dash has a cutout for a glovebox, and my ‘00 does not.
Does anyone have first hand experience to know if the glovebox style of dash will bolt into an earlier car?
My car is on a storage lift for the winter with tons of stuff underneath, so it isn’t easy to just test fit it.
I’m trying to figure out whether I have to work with the eBay seller deliver the dashboard form the auction, or whether this might work. They’re in California, about as far as possible from Vermont, so freight costs are going to make it uneconomical for them, and I suspect they won’t be keen on swapping.
Thanks!

#1 - I can't help you with the fit - it should work since the dimensions of the mkI and mkII cars are the same, but some of the connection points may have been moved (due to glove box etc.)...good luck with that - i.e. you won't know until you know...
#2 - If LA parts dismantler sent you something other than what was described in the auction, it's on them to make it right - that includes return shipping! If you paid shipping on the first one, it should also be covered on the replacement...

I'm with Dporto on this one. I'm pretty sure it is compatible. Consider the glove compartment a bonus. Also, have you considered using dash and leather paint instead of swapping everything out? The stuff from ColorBond is amazing and really works. Saves a lot of money too.

It will fit. One of the Techs where I worked before retiring swapped the the 996.2 dash into a 99. I do remember him saying the bracketry around the radio/AC had to be swapped as well, so retrofitting is entirely possible ,but I don't remember any details of what all needs to accompany the dash to make the retrofit complete.

Thanks guys.
i agree with your points, the seller should make it right. I’m just not optimistic, so I want to make sure I have a plan “b”.
I’m really glad to hear that you know someone who actually did the swap - that makes me fell a whole lot better about it, if I do need to go down that road.
I hadn’t seriously considered painting the dash: I’m not a great painter and I would be afraid to make it look horrible. I thought the odds of it turning out looking decent were better if I swapped in factory black parts. I’ll keep that in my back pocket as plan “c”. Thanks for suggesting that option.
If I end up attempting the swap, I’ll report back for the archives.
Thanks again.

GIven the amount of work involved in swapping the entire interior, you must really love your car
I guess with the dash out you’ve an excuse to do the heater-flap-foam thing too 8)

It’s a labor of love. I’m too far into it to make it economical. Next time around I’ll buy one that is closer to my ideal, but for now I’m trying to love the one I’ve got.
