Default over size 3.2 986 boxster thrust bearings can you get them ?

Porsche Boxster 3.2 s
2001
986.
slight damage to crank shaft due to thrust spun out. asking if i can get any where over size thrust bearings.
some one did say that they are available but would like to ask if anyone would know where from or a source to contact.

Is there no one out there that can tell me any info on Thrust bearings for 3.2 Porsche Boxster. 2001.
or am i being a bit to technical on my post.
I have one big end that needs over size bearing which is no problem but to much wear on crank to Thrust bearing which is why i am asking if any one knows where or if oversize Thrusts bearings are aviable.

I may have the same issue on a 2000 3.2, were you ever successful in finding the oversize thrust washers? What spec did you use for replacing them???
Thanks for your help.

Gregg, you will probably have better luck getting a reply over at the BOXSTER forum:

Doubtfull since the crankshaft & bearings are interchangeable for all Porsche engines made in 2000-2001 except the Turbo.

Non exist. Your best bet is finding a used crank and carrier assembly out of a 2.7 or 3.2. We keep them in stock. Likewise cutting factory cranks for available repair bearings requires the crankshafts to be heat treatened and straightened, and that that point, I'd rather trust a crank that hasn't suffered through a failure.

Thanks for the info Charles. I don't know yet how bad my crank is. I have not dug deep enough. Another question, is it possible to see the thrust bearing without splitting the engine? I have the engine on the bench and I am just about to pull the right cylinder head for another issue. I do have a borescope available.

No, these are the very first parts that are installed when the crankshaft is dropped into the carrier. They are at the heart of the engine, you must disassemble the crank carrier to even see them.

So the crankshaft & carrier assembly for the 2.7, 3.2, and 3.4 are the same?
I wish I had a list of parts that could be swapped between M96 versions.

No, the year of manufacture of each engine matters, as well as if the engine was a reman, or not.

The interchange is the biggest mystery with these engines. It remauns an unexact science, but l have momorized most of what will, and will not cross over from experience. This interchange could end up as a manual someday, bit won’t be included in the M96 Definitive Guide. A few more years of experience sould be helpful to help expose us to everything, and every instance. 15 years currently isn’t enough to be absolute.

Good thing it looks good, this is going to be a bit of work.

Hi Strudds,
I am impressed that you made your own! I am still dismantling my engine to see how bad the thrust bearing/crank is. If needed I may contact you again for advice on this. Glad you found a way to solve the problem. Did you have much material removed from the crank?

thanks, Gregg

yes you may contact me any time.
I had just 0.05 thou taken off the flywheel side of the crank shaft thrust face.
So only needed to make up one oversize thrust bearing.
Depending on the damage to the running face on the crank shaft if this is not to bad then the crank can be saved and thrust bearings made to suit on the amount machined off.
So it is possible to repair and make a big saving on carrying out the job.

Keep in touch.
Regards
Mark
