Default 2001 996 with modified engine to 3.6

Hey

Just wondering what you guys think of 2001 996 Convertible 4 with a 3.4 bored over to 3.6? I am looking for a Cottage toy and I wondering what can I expect from an 996 with such an modified engine.
This was done about 60,000km ago so the engine has the miles on it and so does the car.

-Should a modification reflect the price positively or negatively?

What's the asking price vs buying a .2 that has a factory 3.6?
Who did the rebuild and what's their reputation?

Did they use Nickies?
What was replaced when the engine was rebuilt?

Trying to figure out. But I believe it was done by LN Engineering.

I think the value impact is going to be much more dependent on who did the rebuild and how long ago than the extra bit of power.

When I did my 997 rebuild I went from 3.6 to 3.8. I don't think the extra size does anything at all for the value of my car.

^^All of the above^^ It all depends on exactly what was done (Parts as well as labor) and who did it. The mere fact that it was modified from 3.4 to 3.6 liters could be a curse as well as a blessing. More info needed - I wouldn't even consider it without copius documentation.

Ask if there is an issue with oil consumption and white smoke on a cold start-up, even occasional.

I called the shop that did the work, not the engine rebuild. They said they have done many of those modifications.

If LN did the rebuild that would be a plus depending on asking price of which was never answered...Pictures and more details. A PPI is still a must as there could be thousands of dollars in maintenance needed.
But I seriously doubt maintenance has been ignored if the owner sprung for an LN rebuild unless it left him broke

Not sure I follow this. If the shop did not do the rebuild, there should have been nothing to modify...or was it a swap with a used engine?

As far as I know LN has never rebuilt engines.
Someone else must have rebuilt the engine and perhaps they used LN Nickies and IMSB.
I'd need more details before I'd add any value to the car because of an engine rebuild.
Until I knew differently, I would assume the replacement engine was a used one...likely with higher mileage.

That's what it sounds like, but "modify" doesn't sound like a word I would use in pulling an engine, sending out for rebuild, and reinstalling it. Not sure if something else is going on...

That's what you would hope happened.

I know of a 3.8l 997 engine that replaced a 3.4l. Could be anything really.
