2001 996 with modified engine to 3.6
Hey
Just wondering what you guys think of 2001 996 Convertible 4 with a 3.4 bored over to 3.6? I am looking for a Cottage toy and I wondering what can I expect from an 996 with such an modified engine.
This was done about 60,000km ago so the engine has the miles on it and so does the car.
-Should a modification reflect the price positively or negatively?

What's the asking price vs buying a .2 that has a factory 3.6?
Who did the rebuild and what's their reputation?

Did they use Nickies?
What was replaced when the engine was rebuilt?

I think the value impact is going to be much more dependent on who did the rebuild and how long ago than the extra bit of power.
When I did my 997 rebuild I went from 3.6 to 3.8. I don't think the extra size does anything at all for the value of my car.

^^All of the above^^ It all depends on exactly what was done (Parts as well as labor) and who did it. The mere fact that it was modified from 3.4 to 3.6 liters could be a curse as well as a blessing. More info needed - I wouldn't even consider it without copius documentation.

If LN did the rebuild that would be a plus depending on asking price of which was never answered...Pictures and more details. A PPI is still a must as there could be thousands of dollars in maintenance needed.
But I seriously doubt maintenance has been ignored if the owner sprung for an LN rebuild unless it left him broke

As far as I know LN has never rebuilt engines.
Someone else must have rebuilt the engine and perhaps they used LN Nickies and IMSB.
I'd need more details before I'd add any value to the car because of an engine rebuild.
Until I knew differently, I would assume the replacement engine was a used one...likely with higher mileage.
