Default Who would like to buy a used IMS bearing + flange?

I didn't know that the whole assembly (bearing + flange), with no visible defect, is reusable as a 2nd hand unit. Pity the fools who either threw theirs away or gold plated them!

And to cater for the future, when the auction had finished, I have attached a screenshot of the said sale item.

"This IMS bearing has been taken out of my 2004 Porsche Boxster 986 with only 25k on the clock as a precautionary measure due to the negative reporting of IMS failures. However, this bearing has showed (sic) no signs of wear due to the vehicles regular service. Happy to provide records of service and the mechanical report of its replacement.

A fabulous alternative fix for what is a very expensive part... "

If you put a used 986 IMSB into a 996 does that make you want to become a hair dresser?

The logic makes no sense. Why replace a used bearing with a used bearing w/25K on it? The rule is - Once a bearing is extracted, it is never to be used again. Extraction ruins the bearing.

Duhh, because a new LN bearing is like...., a million dollars. This is providing a new 996 owner the ability to replace their 130k IMS to be replaced with a much less worn 25k bearing, without having to break the bank!

Does he say the price is in US $'s or NZ $'s? One NZ $ = about US $0.70. Factor in the FX and freight and it might not be a bad deal

NZD - still I thought an IMS bearing is like a used condom, once it's out one wouldn't want to use it again.

Maybe one would re-use if a new condom costs $700 and has to be installed by certified installer after an extensive pre-qualification.
