Hi Gert! My 200-cell cats from you are still working fine after a few yrs with no CEL.

I was thinking the same about 997 cats and thanks for confirming. Magnaflow must have copied the 997 cats thinking they are the same as the 996 ones. Just curious, do you think the 997 mufflers will make these match and can be installed on the 996 w/o mods?

Looks like you're right Gert. According to the Magnaflow website they show the same part number for both the 996 and 997. OP should let Magnaflow (and distributor) know and return the parts.

Ahsai, thank you for the sleeve suggestion. Great solution. I'm tempted to send the Cat back to Magnaflow but it does seem that they are among the few that make direct fit for 996 that are acceptable in California.

But you've already determined they are not a direct fit.

Why don't you just buy a used OEM cat. I know it's not "legal" to sell or buy used cats.....but here are two of them in the classifieds in CA:

Here's one:

Here is a whole .1 exhaust in Chicago:

I could almost buy that for you and ship you the cat.

Good to hear about the cat upgrade
You could fit the 997 cat and mufflers on the later 996 .
The positon of the tail pipes will be the main problem as the ones from the 997 sit a lot further to the middle.

There is a hack for this issue that we may be forced to consider. You find a generic cat with the correct size monolithic 'brick', peel open the 996 cat tin ,insert the new brick and weld up the old tin. Easier said than done until someone finds a source of the generic brick. The welding is the easy part. You Tube has the gory details of how this is done. Yes it is Smog-illegal but so are most of the options. Regardless of the petty rules, it would probably clean up the emissions to the point where it would pass Smog. You will have done your duty to the environment even if the others are horrified.
The more conspicuous alternative is to find a new universal cc that is the same size pipe and cat diameter(roughly) and weld it in but preserve the original O2 bungs.,to test use the lap-joint pipe connectors. If it works, weld to look original(?)

Found a used cat locally. If it doesn't rattle, I'll grab it. Thanks guys.

I have the same problem, (part number from Magnaflow 444067/444066).

Align the 3X13 screws from the cat to the manifold, Don't tighten them yet

Loosen the adjustable sleeves just enough to catch both end of the muffler and the cat. Tighten these screws (no.17) first.

Then, slowly tighten the 3X13 screws.

Just finished installing it over the weekend.

forget about returning part to Magna Flow who sent me incorrect gaskets. I called and talked t a rep., left emails, messages. It has be three weeks now and they have not replied.

Somehow, I knew this is going to happen, and the gasket is pretty cheap anyway. So ended up order extra sets.
